UC-Davis students charged with torturing hamsters

Then they posted it all on Facebook. While it's disturbing to read about these incidents, I feel strongly about
getting these sadistic a-holes names out there. There is so much animal abuse occurring in our country
that we don't even know about. Something has to be done about this..

From Huffington Post:

DAVIS, Calif. — Two University of California, Davis students are facing charges after police say they tortured two hamsters with a cigarette lighter and posted a video of the incident on Facebook.

Campus police say 18-year-old Henry Nguyen and 19-year-old Josue Melendez were taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of animal cruelty.

The two students allegedly battered and used the lighter to torture the hamsters. One of the hamsters died, but the other recovered after being cared for at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.

Police say the video posting led to the investigation of the two students.

6. BE NICE TO ANIMALS AND DON'T TORTURE THEM
What's so hard about that?

The only exception is unless they are trying to kill you -- only then is it a smart thing to do.

7. Remember when that Cleveland student bit the legs/head off a live hamster?

Oddly, I could only find this little blurb about it. The story seems to have fallen by the wayside.
I do remember only one student was suspended for 1 yr... I don't think anything criminal happened to any.
I doubt very much will happen to these kids in the OP. It too will probably fade into obscurity.

"2004 - Case Western Students Charged With Cruelty for Torturing and Killing a Hamster
PETA received a link to video footage of three Case Western Reserve University students torturing and killing a hamster, including one student biting off the live hamster's leg and head. We immediately contacted the university and authorities and all three students were charged with cruelty."

10. Background checks should be done when it comes to adopting animals

Just like with children and guns. Bad people should not be allowed to have animals.

11. your post is a bit misleading
you said they were charged, THEN they posted it on facebook

in fact, their decision to post it on facebook LED to the investigation, which led to the charges.

either way, these fuckers need to be punished

12. Or course that is what I meant

They tortured them, then posted it on Facebook. The title was separate from my added comments. Not misleading, but poor
posting. I think everyone got it. Thank goodness I'm not one of the college professors!

They need to to be punished by the school AND by the law. In fact, new laws are needed to protect animals. As it stands,
there aren't too many laws out there to help animals from barbarians like these. Torture against animals and humans should
be prosecuted in the same way.
