Oh freepers, I love you

So I wanted to see what the freepers thought of Lowden suggesting we "barter" with doctors for medical care. I typed "barter" in their search engine, and two articles caught my eye. The first one was an article from January, talking about how North Korea has "regressed to a barter economy." Of course they claimed this is what happens when you become a "socialist state," claiming that Obama will eventually lead America down this road, and generally ridiculing the bartering system.

The second article was one about Lowden. In this article, Freepers claim barterting is perfectly acceptable/practical. For instance:

"There are still services that are affordable enough that barter might soon become practical. My chiropractor charges a little under $40 per visit. Given that without regular adjustments I end up back in the wheelchair (no, really, I’m not kidding!), I could see one day trading home-raised meat or produce for that."

or

"But what she is saying is that our grandparents used to barter, that doctors are understanding human beings and that people will get care without the government forcing it. And there, she’s right. In context, she isn’t saying that now you should take a chicken to the doctor."

== == ==

So basically bartering is necessary to stop the government from forcing you to get medical attention. Unless you live in North Korea, where bartering is proof of how "socialism" can destroy your country.

1. These are people who can hardly remember how to get home
You can't expect them to remember what they were told their opinion was on any given subject 3 months ago.

2. Try walking into your chiropractor's with $40 worth of home-grown zucchini and see what they do.
That's just way too much zucchini.

3. Equivocation will become the signpost of our times.
I argued against the new definitions for fascism, socialism and communism, with righties. I was told that the old defs. were gone. The words meant what righties wanted them to mean. This is their war on science. If you cannot decide on terms, there can be no claims, or truth, or reality.

6. Trading "home raised meat" for healthcare, without the nosey, socialist USDA involvement
sounds like something out of Motel Hell(o). :D

8. I well remember our family doctor in the 1950's who charged just $10 an office visit. Now I wonder
how people will barter for a CAT scan or PET, which cost from $3000 to $8000 a pop. Will the labs start taking in autos as trade? What about a major heart surgery or cancer treatments, costing $150,000 to $900,000? Will hospitals now take fine real estate or 401K's in trade?

My grandfather was a 'Watkins man'. Basically, a traveling salesman of home and kitchen supplies. He had a van and a district that he crisscrossed. Many times he took something in trade... a live chicken, eggs, fresh cream, or vegetables. But again, the stuff he sold, like a can of black pepper or a bottle of vanilla, only cost $.50 to a couple of dollars. Things have changed since then.

10. My "understanding" doctor and hospital still charged me $30,000 for
surgery and a hospital stay. That's a lot of chickens.
