Stand strong... tell the GOP to go pound salt... take it to the American people... and watch the GOP resistance start to crumble as the truth starts to smack them in the face.

I'm liking this new spine implant that the Democratic party is exhibiting.

I believe the American voter responds to strength and courage of one's convictions. Keep this up for 6 months, and November won't be so bad after all.

1. I really don't think any "lesson" from HCR applies here.

As correct as HCR was to do, it was (and is) politically unpopular (even after you factor in the people who think it doesn't go far enough). Republicans told the Democrats to pound sand, and they loved every minute of it. They would have been happy for HCR to fail and take it to the polls (as they did in 94). Democrats were forced to come up with all the votes themselves. This was possible before, but stopped being so after Scott Brown was elected.

FinReg, on the other hand, is extremely popular. Republicans not only want to look like they favor reform -- a few of them actually do favor reform. The circumstances are completely different.

5. That is totally incorrect. In fact, that is the opposite of true.
"Politically unpopular" actually meant that an overwhelming % of the population was in favor of it, and the establishment was against it. It wasnt until the Dems had changed the bill into a giveaway to corporations that it became unpopular with voters, and thus "politically acceptable".

4. It'll All Fall Apart When Immigration Reform Comes Around...
The Democrats didn't use any strategy here as much as the rushpublican overplayed their hand...again. McChinless thought he could astroturf a Luntz like they did with healthcare and at many other times, the corporate media would parrot it and there'd be a swing in polls against any reform...enough of some for the GOOP to obstruct. When he stupidly went running to meet the Wall Street bankers the same day many of his teabagger buddies were doing a poutrage dances and the word got out, he had to backtrack and the resistance started to fall apart. Had he not done this...did his business on the phone, I bet we'd see 41 rushpublicans ready to obstruct on this bill as they did on HCR and will do again.

The real test will be the upcoming Immigration debate as the blue dogs, who have no love for Wall Street, are sure to line up with the rabid unhinged in framing that debate as an invasion of "stinkin' Mexicans" rather than the people who exploit them. Or should DADT move to the floor...plenty of hand wringing from ConservoDems who fear "teh gay" as much as their redneck rushpublican neighbor.

7. They're doing a better job now.
They're correctly using the strategy of calling the GOP out for their obstructionism, putting them in the same corner as the big corporate & Wall Street interests, and making them radioactive until they're forced to cave.
