The Democrats are kicking ass and taking names.
Relive any one year from the Bush administration or under the time the GOP had the majority in congress and notice how the Democrats are kicking some serious ass.

The MSM gives Obama credit for NOTHING. The MSM gives democrats in congress credit for NOTHING. All the while as the GOP remains as corrupt as ever and continues to put "NO" on their American Express Cards.

1. that's a pretty low bar you've got for what constitutes
"kicking ass"

I don't see it.

6. This is exactly the attitude that is pervasive on DU.

The Democrats are doing more than any administration since FDR. Considering the change in the institutional behavior of the Senate and the political environment, Obama is taking opportunities and hitting them out of the park. But to many people, that still isn't enough. They compare the Obama administration/Congress to a standard that has never existed in history, and have no concept of how unrealistic their assumptions are.

7. again, your idea of "hitting out of the park" denotes a small park
in my opinion.

10. Everyone has the right to their opinion.
Edited on Thu Apr-22-10 08:04 AM by BzaDem
Though your opinion would be more credible if you could come up with a historical example where a Democratic President in similar circumstances got more done.

After all, you could just as well say that FDR was an ineffective president because he didn't get enough done. Without an objective analysis of the size of your "park" relative to history, your opinion means little.

12. Good point. For example:
A stimulus bill that prevented financial armageddon, a health care bill (who's done that?), and coming up: financial reform, immigration reform, and climate legislation.

Look at how our reputation's changing worldwide. Look at the success in taking down terrorist leaders in the middle east. Look at the movement on 'don't ask, don't tell.' Look at the hospital visitation rights for gay partners and their kids.

All of this - all of it in less than 18 months.

8. You don't see Obama ripping up nuclear treaties do you? Starting another cold war
...running down our image globally, running down our educational system, the economy into the ground, denying women equal pay...cutting funding for cancer research...etc. etc. - these are small things. Little nuances?

9. When compared to Torture, Hostile Occupations and 'wars' on abstractions at home and abroad
Edited on Thu Apr-22-10 08:05 AM by ixion
continuing unabated, why, yes, yes I do see those things as subtle nuance, while ignoring the 800lb gorilla in the room.

It certainly doesn't rank the "kicking ass" label.

Oh, and you may want to get some feedback from a teacher on the "running down the education system" part. NCLB is still very much in play, and there seems to be an active task to remove tenured teachers, or at least break teacher's unions.

11. He didn't start the wars. He is dealing with wars he inherited. Afghanistan neglected
by bush the warmonger for 8 solid years. Inheriting the travesty that bush left both at home and abroad can't be cured in the snap of a finger. I'm sick of the foot stomping, the kid stuff. Wars are not video games. He MUST deal with them and he is because that is what he inherited.

Edited on Thu Apr-22-10 08:44 AM by ixion
and that means nothing to the people who are killed with our tax dollars daily. It means nothing to the people who have had their lives or families destroyed IN YOUR NAME.

Your tolerance for that level of carnage is unsettling, at best.

17. The M$M has been carrying the water for the Republicans since the inauguration
Starting January 20, the Main $tream Media has been stating as a fact that we were going to lose the House to the Republicans. The M$M is in business to make money, and the over 50 crowd who listen to talk radio are the ones most easily influenced by advertising to spend their money. The right wing hate radio personalities have a grip on their audiences for 16 hours a day, and it has moved over to the cable news networks who want to cash in.

A little Fairness Doctrine to break up the non-stop spewing of right wing ideas would level out the playing field. In the mean time we vote Democratic and prove the Media wrong

4. DU also gives Democrats in Congress credit for nothing.
At least for many people. Why hasn't Obama forced the Senate to enact X? What about Y? Healthcare reform? "Big gift to the insurance companies." People have no concept of the concept of limits to what can be done, and how close Obama and Congress are to hitting them anyway.

5. Obama's on a roll....
There's a thread around here somewhere to the effect that 1.5 million people moved from part-time to full-time employment last month. Add to that 165,000 new jobs and the market cracking 11,000 and you've got some signs of real economic recovery.

People are going to start feeling the effects of Health Care Reform in the next few months, and Congress is going to corral the hogs on Wall Street who created this mess in the first place.

Just in time for the election.

14. More Like The GOOP Is Starting To Fracture...
Democrats have passed a lot of legislation out of the House for the past 3 years...much to the credit of Speaker Pelosi, but it ended up in the dead letter office of the Senate due to rushpulicans demanding 60 votes on everything. You couldn't even get unanimous consent to go to the bathroom. For the most part, Senate Democrats have stood strong with the exception of some "red state" Democrats who were able to parlay their position on the fringes into being deal makers and breakers. Bills that should have easily passed ended up up against the 60 vote wall...and still do. Without one or several rushpublicans, nothing gets done. And it didn't.

What's changing is the strains inside the GOOP...the Paulbots, the Palinistas, the "establishment"...all fighting for the "soul" of this corrupt and inept party. The only thing that unites them is their hatred for this President and anything a Democrat favors. As we move closer to the primaries and general election we're starting to see the teabag effect on the GOOP...forcing some off the right wing abyss (McCain) while quietly others like Brown, Snowe and other "Blue State" GOOPers know they can't get away with the same shit a Texas or Alabama congresscritter can. The fracture lines are starting to really appear as the GOOP expects big gains and are starting to eat their own and read too many of their own press clippings.

Stay tuned...
