from the Sacramento Bee:
Group names Schwarzenegger to its "worst" list
A Washington, D.C.-based watchdog group has listed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger among the nation's 11 "worst governors" in a new report.Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a left-leaning organization, rebuked the Republican governor for several questionable actions throughout his tenure. It named nine Republican governors and two Democrats -- New York Gov. David Paterson and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson -- to its list.
The group criticized Schwarzenegger for activities such as relying on campaign and nonprofit funds to pay for his private air travel and Sacramento lodging. Schwarzenegger has said he uses outside donations so taxpayers do not bear such costs.
CREW also docked the governor for appointing friends to the Board of Chiropractic Examiners and a donor to two horseracing-related panels. And it said he inappropriately pressured officials at the state Air Resources Board.
Schwarzenegger press secretary Aaron McLear responded by pointing to past stories in Roll Call that said CREW received donations from Democratic interests such as the Service Employees International Union.
