Long-haired profiling
I have been pulled over many times because, I believe, I have long hair. The cops were sure I was holding. The law set to be passed by Gov Brewer here in Az is profiling. Profiling has been around forever. A black guy drives through Beverly Hills? He has to be a burgler, right? A longhair in Texas? He has to be holding dope, right? And now, in this state. (that has gone downhill since Napolitano went to the Fed), if you're brown, you're going down. Between Arpaio and the checkpoints (how many states have checkpoints?), between Kyl and McCain and Hayworth, this state sucks. Damn!

1. checkpoints happen at nearly every border state
we have them in WA (federal checkpoints)

even DUI checkpoints are illegal for local, state cops etc. due to our state constitution, otoh

5. Really? No DUI checkpoints in WA?
I like those state constitutions that provide more protection than the Constitution (as interpreted by the sitting Supreme Court).

The Alaska constitution's privacy provisions mean you can legally possess pot in the privacy of your own home. The only state where it is legal to do so.

6. yes. no dui checkpoints in WA
fwiw, all constitutions provide at least SOME additional protection in some area (at least every one i am aware of)

because of course the fed const. provides the baseline.

WA's is especially good in regards to privacy, since we specifically mention a right to privacy in our constitution. no such mention in the federal one

WA's is also very good in regards to RKBA

and citizen initiatives. our constitution actually says citizen initiatives are the higher form of law vs. legislative.

2. My 18 year old nephew flew a year ago and was pulled out by TSA 3 times.
3 because the first time he was to upset to make that flight.

3. I blame Levi Strauss for my profiling experiences
I used to wear the complete denim "outfit" back when I was younger. Tight jeans. Denim jacket. Tank top or turtleneck depending on the weather. Leather boots.

Never made it through an "upscale" store without being closely followed by a store employee who no doubt thought that denim = shoplifter.

Oh, and don't even try going into one of those fancy-assed women's clothing stores dressed like a normal person. A friend and I did some shopping one time in a popular city shopping complex building. We were looking at some stuff when we were approached by some little Smith College (clue to what city we were in and the shopping complex for anyone who knows the area) nose-in-the-air type who very sweetly informed us (although we hadn't asked) that "The Bargain Basement is over that way". Snot. :spank:

There's all sorts of ways to profile people...

4. I haven't spent much time in Texas, but I've certainly noticed that on the East Coast.
Every time I would fly out of Newark, JFK, etc. I would get "randomly selected" for a bag search. This was before 9-11, even. You could practically taste the excitement of the security dudes, totally certain that this longhair flying to California had to have a duffel bag full of WEED! WEED! WEEEEEEED!

Sorry guys. Despite the hair, I haven't smoked it in a very long time. Not that I still don't wish my tax dollars were going for you doing something useful. After all, some of the 9-11 guys went through Newark, too--- but, of course, they had short hair and were wearing dockers. So no point in searching them-- for WEED! WEED! WEEEEEEEEED!!! ...right?

Also, the East Coast is the only place in the country where I've had total, random strangers come up to me and feel compelled to comment on my hair. Like, it's so weird, right? A MAN! With LONG HAIR! Weird! I bet he has WEED! WEED! WEEEEEEEEED!!!!
