Pick a Remarkable Moment of the Debate.
One was when Thompson (?) said it was up to each employer whether to fire an employee for being gay.

intelligence, charisma, or the respect he commands throughout the world. Tweety sounded like an idiot asking that question, and the 10 morons up there all took the bait and made themselves look like even bigger fools with their smarmy, smug answers. They were all playing to the Clinton-hating base instead of realizing that there were viewers (including repuke primary voters) who actually like and admire Clinton. A much smarter (and classier) response would have been to say, "I would hope that if and when President Clinton returns to the White House, it would be during my administration. I would certainly welcome his friendship and advice, just as I would welcome the advice of any former President."

I guess that would have been just too much to ask from this particular bunch of pathetic losers.

73. well said...take away Bill's over-hyped BJ and just what would they have an issue with?
his busted land deal? What about Commander Guys $50K loan from the bin Laden family or his insider trading?

his filegate/travelgate "expose"? Compared to every real scandel we're seeing developing in this administration?

The mind boggles as to the depth of the hypocrisy that the Republican Party and their media stooges, like Matthews, will go in their hatred of Clinton (and, by association, us). Until the 'lil Dictator got selected, I could never have approached that level of animosity.

52. Most notable was Matthews' failure to ask any tangible questions ...
... regarding the most controversial Bush policies.

- Do you agree with the Bush Administration's position on the "unitary executive"?

- Do you believe that Presidential signing statements are strictly ceremonial and historical, or do you feel that they become part of the legal document and affect the meaning of the document?

- Do you agree that Executive Privilege shields all Presidential advice? What advice is within scope?

- The military is at its breaking point, some say it's already broken, how will you both continue the war effort in Iraq *and* address the increasing critical military personnel issue?

etc.

Then they asked the "fire the gay employee" question and I wanted to throw a brick through the TV.

But, what was with all the bullshit questions? Tweety had to ask the question about Hillary and Bill (maybe he has a slight man-crush on Bill?) and the question about Lieberman (so tomorrow Hannity can have Joementum on his show and kiss his ass and Joe can be all condescending about how the repugs are more bi-partisan, :puke: ), and all they did was talk about Reagan-damn near every response mentioned Reagan.

And the Rove and Libby questions? Did they ask our candidates such inane questions? I don't seem to remember that they did, but then again, Brian Williams moderated our debate.

trying to see who could climb higher up into ronald reagan's ass.

Each of them reconfirmed my feeling that if, IF we are so unfortunate as to have any one of these clowns in the Oval Office, we are FINISHED as a nation. Especially if you're a woman of child-bearing age.

The bobbing and weaving and dodging a kkkarl rove question.

That schmuck brownback. Another snarky "democrat party" reference and a three-year-old's justification of "well, EVERYBODY does it", when asked about corruption in the GOP and duke cunningham and mark foley and jack abramoff and a fourth person (I forget who). The first thing he does is talk about how there are "Democrat" offenders in this, too, with money found in refrigerators and cash found in freezers. Okayyyyyyyyy - seems to me that's ONE guy (William Jefferson of Louisiana) compared to FOUR in the question alone.

Frankly, they dodged EVERYTHING except to make clear that women will be reduced to brood mare status (with giuliani coming out somehow on ALL sides of the issue - weighted only slightly toward the NO-choice side), and religion will govern ALL decision-making. Oh yeah, and we're gonna go kick ass in Iran now, too. Oh yeah, and "mistakes were made" in Iraq, and the war was managed "poorly" - by some vaporous, unnamed shade of an anonymous, mysterious somebody over there somewhere wafting away in the breeze, whom you can't see and nobody can quite make out who it might be.

And mccain looked like that weird character from "Dr. Strangelove" who had the mechanical arm that kept raising in this rigid, rigor-mortis salute. VERY strange arm movements from him all night long. Rather scary, actually.

duncan hunter seemed AWFULLY pompous to me, in how he spoke, how he stood (posture), what he said, the way he gestured, the works.

WAY too religious. Three of them raised their hands about evolution - as in, NOT believing in it: brownback, huckabee I think) and
tancredo, I believe. SHUDDER!!!!!
God help us all if any ONE of these jerks gets in.

59. All of the candidates talking about "bad" trade policy all of the sudden.
Edited on Thu May-03-07 11:04 PM by ryanmuegge
That's one of their new talking points...after 30 years of creating this bad trade policy. I find it truly offensive that they're pretending to defend American jobs while you know they agree with everything that's happened with trade policy and will continue to do the same thing when they're elected.

That really got under my skin because it's such a lie. They're trying to act like they're the party of the working class and so forth and they've been creating the trade policy for 30 years (and, yes, I include Clinton as a Republican administration...not to get into an argument about that touchy subject).

60. When Tweety looked bored as hell at the end.
He was so excited earlier today. What a letdown.

62. The fella that mentioned he was a compassionate conservative,
then in the very next breath, talked about bombing the shit out of Iran.

66. Yep....caught the "irony" on that one......
However, wasn't the question put this way, "Like George Bush, do you call yourself a compassionate Republican?"

Considering the preface, I'd say that his answer was just about right!

69. This was all irrelevant and a waste of time, because
Fred Thompson is going to run and get the nomination.
