I have to say Romney
He's a slick guy, got the looks, is kind of dumb, utterly shameless. Classic GOP.

He was much more articulate than the rest.

Of the second tier, I thought Brownback scored the most points with his base.

44. Great. Get some video. We can start taxing the Mormon Church.
Since they steal, I mean take, 10% off the top of their members' paychecks, it could be a pretty good haul. Might buy a few weeks of the war.

(Actually, even this won't sink him. What I keep saying - and nobody listens - is that the MittFlopper is the most dangerous candidate out there. As evil as Bush and 40 times smarter. Be very afraid.)

Both coasts and all that. Plus the true believers over at Free Republic seem to like Hunter a lot, and there is a lot of Romney hate there. If he is their nominee he will have to have someone the far far right will vote for, and Guiliani ain't it.

No chance in Hades. Although many hardcore Christian Republicans I know are unaware that Romney is a Mormon.

Once that comes out and gets a lot of play (and it will the closer to primary season we come), he's gone.

15. Yip, ROMNEY won. GIULIANI lost. Ron PAUL lost.
Basically Mittenfuhrer was unflappable even on his flip flops.

GIULIANI almost blew it on the Sunni-Shia question, stumbling into the correct answer, and being totally TENTATIVE throughout.

Ron PAUL stumbled on the "crisis decision" question, saying "I don't think I've ever made one..."

Who were the 3 or 4 a-holes raising their hands on disbelieving evolution?

Left to run a homeless shelter or a humane society pound, he would do the world a lot of good.

But sadly we live in an age of faith-based leadership... and we have the dead soldiers and tarnished reputation to prove it.

comment on Obama from a few months ago. I grew up catholic and had my share of bigotry aimed my way, so I try to be very sensitive to that. As for candidates and religions, I am sick of any and all candidates who flaunt their religion. It grates on me to hear Obama constantly invoking God, and Huckabee talking of how his religion will influence his decisions. I am also tired of Romney's opponents using his religion as a negative.
I often times feel like my country has left me.
Edit to add:
I was a fan of Mittens father George. Mittens is in no way even a shadow of his father.

He is far creepier in real life than the guy he plays on TV.

At least none of his campaign ads have yet shown him lounging around the pool with his shirt off. However, the campaign is not that old yet. And they give no warning when this stuff comes on TV. One minute you're having a nice dinner with your kids and the next, wham, Romney on the TV shirtless.

Shudder, shudder, shudder.

Mormon women can only gain access to Heaven if they are called "up" by their husbands.

Also no questions on how Mormons believe their men will become Gods to their own planets upon their deaths.

I was raised in a LDS household. That doesn't mean its not true,
I'd just like to see a source. About the becoming gods thing,
that is definitely something that finds its way into LDS thought.
I thought that once a family was "sealed" that they were together
forever in heaven etc. Once again I may be wrong but I was actually
in the church till I was 13.

66. Thats because its not true
Im a return missionary - first clue the previous poster does not know LDS doctrine would be that he refers to "heaven" as one place. (remember there are three kingdoms of heaven and the highest has three degree's in it as well). However it is church doctrine that husbands who have been through the Temple will call their wives up to resurrection (not the same as "heaven").

I've been there done that. It is up to the man to call his wife "up". Up is the term I used.

I'm fairly certain I know what I am talking about. And you said "up to heaven" - they call them for the resurrection - that takes place before the Judgement.

75. Outer Darkness is the Mormom threat to instill fear in all
If you don't follow church doctrine, you will be cast out into "outer darkness" where it is dark and you are alone, to never hear or see anyone again.

A type of terrorism especially effective on the very young.

Edited on Fri May-04-07 01:34 AM by FreeState
Wrong there is only one way to go to ourter darkness and that is to deny that Jesus is the Christ after having your calling and election made sure. You must hold the Priesthood for this to happen. IE women can not go to hell - all women got to one of three kingdoms of heaven - none are separated from God.

All women go to one of the kingdoms of heaven LDS or not. So how is it their husbands call them up? Please tell me how unmarried LDS women are called up when the LDS doctrine teaches no women can go to Outer Darkness

and none can go to outer darkness. Show me the "Holy Books" those passages come from.

Then, tell me that a man is not responsible for calling/or not calling his wife "up".

I can only bear my testimony that the church is closest to the Muslims , concerning the role of women, as I have seen.

Bearing of testimony has a special meaning to the Mormons. Like testifying on a Bible.

"Most church members now to associate the term "Outer Darkness" to Gnolaum or the place where Sons of Perdition will go in the afterlife. The confusion likely arose because Smith described the place where sons of perdition go as having "no light.""

The LDS Church is 100% male dominated. Unlike the Catholics, women can never obtain sainthood. Women are seen only as an extension of the man.

65. I think Romney failed to make a lasting impression tonight..
Romney looked really bad when asked about his flip flop on abortion tonight. He had an excellent opportunity to outline the healthcare reforms he made as Governor, and to reach out to those Republicans who are just as mad at insurance companies as they are at the federal government. instead he avoided the question and implied that we have "the best healthcare system in the world!" :eyes:

Most importantly I was surprised that McCain came out in favor of federally funded embryonic stemcell research, but that Romney was too chicken to embrace any coherent position on that issue.

Not passing judgement on Romney's religious beliefs, just that those beliefs are something the others can, and will, use to their own ends to persuade the wingnuts that Romney's not "one of them."

116. He's many things, but "dumb" ain't one of 'em.
From Wiki: After attending Stanford University for two quarters, Romney served in France for 30 months as an LDS missionary. Upon returning from France he transferred to Brigham Young University, where he was valedictorian, earning his B.A. summa cum laude in 1971. In 1975, Romney graduated from a joint JD/MBA program coordinated between Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar. He graduated cum laude from the law school and in the top 5 percent of his business school class.

He's on the wrong side of just about every issue, but he certainly ain't "dumb".

So sad that looks really is one of the main ways that even we here judge.

Gov. Gilmore made a much better showing, in a Republican sense, than all of the rest of them, but he doesn't look presidential, is what they will say.

Television politics suck big time! :(
