I'm not sure if this means anything to anyone else, but
I was sitting in the waiting room at my doctor's office this morning and I heard probably the most progressive statement from anyone in this conservative area of Illinois to date. A woman and her husband (who seemed to be in the middle, working class and likely in construction of some sort) sat next to me and they started talking about how good it was that Obama finally did something to allow LGBT couples to see their partners while in the hospital. The man even said that it should have been done a long time ago. It was just so unexpected from people in this area I just had to share it with all of you!

1. It's a very important issue to me, and I'm delighted about the couple's endorsement.

3. I am not that surprised! I believe that most people who are not hyper-religious
but have a fair mind, a good heart and are at least of average intelligence would support more gay rights. . .and more and more as they get used to the "normalcy" that, selecting a partner should not be based solely on "gender" but on love.

4. Reveals more about YOUR expectations than about them
I live in a very red enclave of a blue state, so I tend to expect wingnut BS wherever I go. What a delightful treat it is when someone here doesn't meet my expectations.:)
