She has always been corrupt, but it wouldn't have come to everyone's attention if not for the media making her a star. Ironic that the vehicle to her wealth & fame - media exposure - will ultimately lead to her demise. You know it's gonna happen; she has too much hubris to heed the warnings of anyone who can see disaster looming. Her downfall will be a real train wreck, and the media will have played a role, even though it was definitely not their intention.
