Douglas Spink is not your typical criminal. While other, less ambitious lawbreakers tend to stick with one felonious field of study, Spink, a former drug smuggler now accused of running a bestiality farm for tourists, prefers to double-major.
Spink made his fortune in his early 20's selling fitness catalogues to gyms. As a 2005 story in The Vancouver Province described him, Spink is "a fear-loving adrenaline junkie fond of snowboarding, rock climbing and BASE jumping" who also ran a dog-breeding business in Oregon.

Spink first got into trouble five years ago when police found $42 million in cocaine in his Chevy Tahoe. In a drug-trafficking case that would eventually besmirch two of Seattle's most well-regarded lawyers, Spink only served three years, a light sentence he managed to swing because he cooperated with authorities.
His latest run-in came this week, when Whatcom County sheriffs raided his compound near the Canadian border and discovered video of a British tourist having sex with multiple dogs.

Under Washington law, it's illegal to assist others in engaging in bestiality -- and breaking any state law would be a violation of Spink's release, punishable by up to five years in prison.
Authorities searched his farm Wednesday after prosecutors received a tip from a public defender's office in Tennessee. The office reported that Spink had been calling them incessantly about a jailed defendant in a bestiality case in Tennessee.
That man, James Michael Tait, had previously admitted filming a man having sex with a horse in Enumclaw, Wash., in 2005. The man Tait filmed died of internal injuries suffered during the incident. He received a minor sentence in the case because Washington had relatively weak bestiality laws at the time.
It's not immediately clear why Spink was calling Tennessee about the Tait case.
