Mexican Catholic bishop: SEX EDUCATION is to blame for child rape.
Suffer little children...

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexican educators and officials defended the country's public school sex education Friday from criticism by a Roman Catholic bishop who said such teachings make celibacy vows more difficult for priests to keep...

On Thursday, Bishop Felipe Arizmendi said that "when there is generalized sexual licentiousness, it is more common to have pederasty. In the midst of the invasion of so much eroticism, it is not easy to remain faithful in celibacy, or in respecting children," Arizmendi, the bishop of the San Cristobal de las Casas diocese in Chiapas state, said at a meeting of Mexican bishops...

In a statement Friday, the Mexican Association for Sexual Health, a group of professional counselors and educators, defended the need for the government sex-ed programs and criticized the bishop's comments.

"Those of good conscience in the church should stop this absurdity and find good help," the statement said. "Blaming the problems that the Catholic Church has had with priests' sexually abusing minors on sex education makes no sense," it added. "It borders on the pathetic."

1. There are people of good conscience in the Catholic Church? Since when?

6. Actually, there are
and they're much more likely to be liberal than their Protestant brethren.

The problem isn't Catholics, it's the pervasive rottenness of the hierarchy.

When men like that Bishop blame the victims for his own actions in turning the church into an organized child rape ring, they are waking up good Catholics everywhere.

8. I would say the nuns that work in Catholic hospitals.

The same nuns that supported HCR reform.

I notice it's almost always the male figureheads in the Catholic Church that deny, blame, and never take responsibility.

13. I've wondered how good their consciences are, knowing that they work for a child-rape racket...
If they just want to do good works, they could of course work for any of many non-child-rape organizations.

(shrug) They're religious I guess, so I suppose they have little trouble making up a justification.

22. A NUN (our principal) hit on me when I was in the 4th grade
I was so creeped-out and I knew if I said anything to my Mom, Sister Katherine Clair would call me a liar and make it worse.

For the most part, in my 6 years of Catholic school, the nuns were effective teachers, very dedicated, Married, you might say, to their subjects of expertise.

33. When Democrats stay in the party to fight for a better direction from within, do you

condemn them for doing so and question their conscience?

There should come a point where we realize as beings of finite occupancy that there are some tasks that may take a few, or even dozens of generations.

It is counterproductive to beat people down who attempt to stand up for doing the right thing, as best they are able.

12. The bishop of Tenerife says that adolescents are the seducers:
Edited on Sat Apr-17-10 05:11 PM by Bluebear
"There are 13 year old adolescents who are under age and who are perfectly in agreement with, and what’s more wanting it, and if you are careless they will even provoke you." - Tenerife Bishop Bernando Alvarez, blaming child molestation on the victims. Alvarez' comments have ignited a firestorm of condemnation in Spain.

14. This priest is just defending the Vatican and finding someone else to blame.
"Sex education is to blame for rape" is just as fallacious as the tired old Christian conservative talking point that "sex education encourages teens to have sex."

17. Maybe celibacy is the problem.
All those horny priests need some outlet for their sex drive. Why not let them have sex with consenting adults?

18. No.
No. Celibacy is in no way related to pedophilia, despite what the Catholic wants the world to believe. If these pedophile priests truly practiced celibacy, there would be no issue here, right?

19. Right, except that isn't what I meant.
I'm suggesting the policy of the Roman church not to allow priests to marry may be part of the problem.

23. No.
Most pedophiles are married men. Most are married to women; others, to their churches. Neither celibacy, nor marriage, is a factor AT ALL. A pedophile is a pedophile, no matter how many times they walk down the aisle.

25. Then why do we hear so much about pedophile priests
and so little about other pedophiles? Is it just that the priests make better news stories, or does the Roman church really have more than its share?

Is there something about the Roman church that attracts pedophiles? Does it, for example, provide cover for their predatory behavior?

28. Most known pedophiles are imprisoned or wear tracking devices.
Except for those pedophiles who wear Catholic frocks. These priests are KNOWN pedophiles going unprosecuted - and protected by some so-called 'church.' ALL pedophiles should be in jail. Even Catholic pedophiles.

Criminy.

27. Exactly. It's just as ridiculous as claiming that homsexuals are pederasts. Any time I hear
someone, usually a straight man, say that I ask them if they therefore enjoy little girls because that's the logic they are employing.

31. No, Bishop, your excuse is pathetic! Shame on you!
You, and the likes of you are the problem. Not the children, and certainly not sex ed.

Teaching sex ed to children is the responsible thing to do in preparing them for life's journey. Blaming sex ed is an evil thing to do.

The problem lies within the priest and those that protect them.

You took vows.

You have obligations.

If breaking your vows are as easy as you imply, then what other vows are you breaking?
