The Law;
"An Ye harm None, do as Ye will."

This is the first and most basic Law. It is also the metric by which a free and just society adopts or rejects ideas, beliefs, policies, and behaviors. It is a single point upon which to stand and realize the balance of our world... or lack thereof. This standard grants perspective on and of the vast interactive tapestry of human existence.

'Where lies the harm?' is the question that invites constructive scrutiny to every contentious issue or idea, distilling many otherwise complex factors and effects into a simple measure of harms versus benefits. Philosophical rationalization aside; nearly any issue can be measured by its potential benefit or harm to a society based wholly on empirical factors.

For several years now, I've asked one question of those that 'feel' certain people do not deserve equal rights. Specifically; equal rights for those who wish to legally commit to one of their peers with whom they share a profound bond.

That question is;
"How can the marriage of two consenting adults cause anyone ANY harm?"

The question, to this day, remains substantively and conspicuously unanswered.

This was a 'Day of Silence' across the US in acknowledgment of our friends, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, and everyone whose pleas for consideration and equality have gone unheard for so very long.

The silence is long since broken, and where the first and most basic law is applied, as it must be for the sake of civilization, equality shall flourish.

That is as inexorable as the law.
