37 things worse than a KFC meatwich, By Mark Morford
And lo, the reaction was swift and true, an incredible flood of comment and reply, recoil and horrified laughter, in response to last week's column -- and the Huffington Post's wondrous reprint -- on the gut-clenching KFC meat phenomenon/abomination known as the Double Down.

But amongst the amazement and wonder, a few oxygen-deprived souls dared to write in to say, "Aww c'mon, it's not all that bad? There are far worse things out there, for sure." And then they proceeded to try and prove how the DD's noxious calorie and fat numbers aren't even as toxic as some other vile fast foodstuffs, completely ignoring the larger picture I was delineating -- all the pollution, animal abuse, industrial farming, chemicals, synthetics, antibiotics, hormones and just plain insidiousness of a company concocting something this greasy and disgusting in the modern age.

But it got me thinking, aside from the food porn on thisiswhyyourefat.com, well, just what are those things that are worse for you than KFC's fistful of karmic hate? What else can you shove into your body, your brain, your very anima itself, if you really despise yourself, stopped caring long ago and just want to curl up and die in a corner somewhere? Shall we list a few? Let's.

1) Tea Party Rally. Recently did I stumble, like stepping on a rusty nail, across a surreal clip of Sarah "Queen of Duh" Palin rallying the "troops" at a Tea Party Express stop somewhere in Gunlick, Kentuckansasiana, and I found my mind suddenly blasted clean by the giant pile of dumb I was witnessing, unable to pinpoint exactly what it was that this circus sideshow reminded me of. ...

1. not the hormone thing AGAIN!
please show me ACTUAL evidence that hormones (e.g progesterone, estradiol, and trenbolone) have negative effects on meat.

i have seen ZERO but the know-nothings constantly decry hormones in meat as an issue

in milk? yes. issue

in meat? no

2. People forget, the bigger the pieces of chicken, the better.
Less surface area per volume means less greasy breading, by proportion.

It's the popcorn chicken that will really get you.

11. Popcorn chicken sucks
It's just fried breading 80 percent of the time.

3. I luv it...
all this horror, repulsion and tongue clicking over a fucking sandwich.

You can't buy publicity and exposure like this.

I'll bet sales have been triple over what the marketing folks originally expected.

5. Very true...
I'm pretty sure had no one made any issue of this thing, I would not have been tempted to try one the other day... It simply wouldn't have crossed my mind.

6. Same here...
I grab a bite at KFC maybe 4-5 times a year, and I probably would have passed on a Doubler Downer if not for all the moral outrage and shrieking coming from some corners about it.

My plans tomorrow will put me in the vicinity of the nearest KFC... I can't resist the urge to find out what all the fuss is about.

B-)

It's bad enough we have to murder other lifeforms on this planet in order to survive - I accept that only if done humanely, but to cruelly torture and then slaughter an animal in order to create this kind of fuckery is an absolute abomination. It's like what I imagine Sodom and Gomorrah were like (if it even existed). If I were the Bible god who liked to smite things, I'd wipe out anyone who bought that non-bread mutant - because of course, I'd be a god of love. Merely looking at that fucking sandwich makes me weep for humanity. Fuck you KFC and the fat fucks who engorge their fat asses on shit like this. I'd add 'eat shit and die', but that would be redundant.

4. I got a double down the other day just to try one...
I was not impressed with it and I don't think I'll ever order one again (not like I was expecting it would be awesome)... Despite me eating one, I think I'll live and I also don't feel all that guilty about eating it.

7. Thanks for posting
No, that's not meant sarcastically. My brother hadn't heard about the DD, so just a little while ago I sent him the first column, along with a photo. Now I'll send him this one, too.

I don't get some of the complaints. Health isn't a trivial issue. And even if it were trivial, we post about trivial things all the time. And some things are worth it for the writing alone.
