MAXWELL, Neb. (AP) -- Fort McPherson National Cemetery in west-central Nebraska will be getting $777,000 in stimulus funding for renovation work.

The office of U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson announced the funding on Friday.

The Department of Veterans Affairs says work began last month to raise, clean and realign 7,400 headstones. More than 400,000 square feet of turf will be replaced.

The cemetery was awarded $150,000 in stimulus funding last April for repairs and equipment purchases.

1. My grandparents are buried at Fort McPherson
It's a lovely spot - esp in Spring and Fall with all of the trees & farmland surrounding it.

Their headstone has been in need of repair - a deep crack near the base, so hopefully it will get fixed during this project.

Thanks for posting this - I really appreciate knowing that this is going on.
