This Repub debate is a total " setup " by MSM
Look at the way they ( MSNBC ) is staging this thing to look so regal and dignified. Playing on the Reagan supposedly greatness and granduer. Trying to separate the past 7 years of neo con facist rule from reality while trying to brings voters back to " good old days" of hard core conservatism that has fooled so many.

I'm proud to see the Democrats debate at a historical Black College that looked just like most Americans gathering places, not all this pomp and circumstance.

I'll bet they won't even ask these guys "if they still beat their wives," questions like Brian Williams did the Dems.

3. They picked the wrong time
to use this venue. It might have had more impact later on in the primaries.

People aren't paying attention that much, yet. I doubt they can use the Reagan Library over and over for future debates. It will just look like more pandering and stage managing. Not that the Repugs are beyond pandering and stage managing. NYC for their 04 convention was a perfect example.

The Democrats can up the ante by holding one in Dallas and have endless punditry on the legacy of JFK.

None of these clowns is the reincarnation of Reagan. I'm sure Ron Reagan will point that out.

the country would be like if JFK had lived, if only he hadn't gone to the state that gave us Bush.

8. As with everything with the Repugs, it's all about APPEARANCES
We're not supposed to remember what they SAID, just the pageantry and ceremony and how *good* it all looked ... "Movie set" politics (all front, nothing behind).

18. In case you hadn't noticed, they've been doing that since Kennedy
In the Nixon-Kennedy debates,I think they were the first televised, Nixon actually did very well if you didn't watch but listened. Nixon was sweating and looked uncomfortable. Kennedy prepared for the media format and used makeup. He looked in control. The problem now is they are even more rigged. In Kennedy-Nixon, they had eight minutes each to make an opening statement. When the LWV ran the debates they were more fair and open to independant and third-pary candidates. Look how they tried to shut Gravel out ov the NH debate. It's pablum for the proles.

19. I saw that debate
While I admit to the fact that I didn't really have the judgement then that I have now, Nixon's performance that night was a glimpse of his brillance as well as his darker emotions.
And, you are right about the difference of quality now and when the LWV did it.

speeches which have nothing to do with the question asked.
