If hospital visitation rules can be changed by presidential order, why not DADT?
I just noticed that at the top of the greatest page is a story about (laudable) presidential orders to HHS to change hospital visitation rules. Seems to me that thousands of public and private organizations are impacted by such rule changes. Rule changes that I laud.

Why can't a presidential order be made to change who can serve the country? Only one organization is affected. The US Government. The same government that is supposed to be protecting us from discrimination.

1. Because DADT was passed by congress. It also needs to be undone by them or
SCOTUS

2. He ordered the military to review DADT
and come up with the least restrictive means available to being in compliance with the law, and the best method to repeal the policy.

Congress has to repeal DADT itself.

3. +1, Yep, Congress has to repeal DADT itself. I wonder how huge of a deal
the Rs will make of that. They are always so against civil rights and equal rights as they live in an alternative reality in another universe.

4. Have you forgotten that the US government is divided into three "equal" branches?

Fortunately, Ken Ulman, cannot overturn the laws of the Federal Government, not that he has any intentions of doing so. I also work with a few people that think Federal Laws can be overturned. Yeah, In HoCo.

:wtf:

5. I think it's pretty obvious that he just doesn't want to.

6. Yep.
He has nothing to gain by repealing it, so why bother?

Sad.

7. Hospital visitation isn't a 'national policy' piece of legislation like DADT.

8. Obama could sign a presidential order to nulify DADT, but it wouldn't be permanent
the next president could come in and reverse it.
So, President Obama wants Congress to vote to repeal DADT and then it will be permanent.
Word is that it will happen this year.
Lieberman has introduced a separate bill in the Senate and there's been a bill introduced in the House.
Word is that a DADT repeal will likely be included as part of the Department of Defense authorization bill in both chambers of Congress.

Patience is a virtue :)
