Poll question: If you could choose, where would you want your taxes to go?
How about a new law that mandates that citizens can designate how their taxes get spent. To give the government some discretion, then citizen's rights to choose would have to limited to say, 80%. The government could do whatever it wanted and needed to do with the 20%, but 80% would have to go where citizens want. They could use any percentage they want toward any project.

Just like on your tax return that gives you an option if you want a dollar used for elections, etc, you could designate you taxes go to defense, helping the poor, building bridges, and health care. Each person would get 5 choices. Right wingers could designate all of their money go to weapons, war, killing & torture. Others could designate all their money go to health care and medicine.

This new law would sidestep congress and give the average citizen more control over our country's future. It would be interesting to see where the different demographics decided to spend their taxes.

Sorry, I forgot the concentration camps, reeducation centers and baby organ harvesting centers too..
Glenn Beck said Obama was going to open up 'baby organ harvesting centers' around the country. He said Obama was going to take new organs from babies to give to others. Just when I think Glenn Beck hits a new insane low, he comes up with something even more insane...

5. Wouldn't this give even MORE power to the wealthy?

Since they, even with Bush's lower rates, pay the bulk of the tax revenues, they would be directing the lion's share of the proceeds to whatever they want.

This idea is very ANTI-poor. In effect, the person who pays more taxes ends up with a "louder voice" than the person who pays very little.

Not good.

7. You're not saying the rich would selfish are you?
Yes, it is flawed. Maybe it could be a two tiered system. The extremely rich would have no say in how their taxes will be used. A person's voting power goes down as your income goes up. The percentages could be based on a person's actual contributions to society. A farm worker picking fruit and vegetables would have more voting rights than a Wall Street billionaire, because the guy on Wall Street produces nothing society needs to survive, while the farm worker is essential for others to eat. Teachers, firefighters, and people who produced and enriched society by helping others would have the most voting rights.

I agree with you, no system should be set up to give the rich even more of a voice. The Supreme Court just took a big dump on our country and the entire middle and poor classes by almost mandating every politician becomes a prostitute just to run for office.

9. Health care
Even if the economy sucks, it would be nice to have universal health care.

When I saw Frontline's, "Sick Around the World," someone from Germany said, "We like to help the unemployed more because we know one's health is fragile when one is unemployed."

I'm pretty sure it was on "Sick Around the World."

10. I'd break it down the whole pie like this
20% job creation
25-30% health care

Public education and infrastructure (mass transit, bridges, sewer system, etc) will make up the rest.

Very little would go towards "defense" or "war." As Kucinich's 2008 Presidential Campaign slogan was, "Strength Through Peace."
