Autistic Girl Found After Four Days
Does anyone at DU believe the story of how this girl was found and that she had been in a swamp for four days? I do not buy the story. I do not think any person could survive four days in a alligator infested swamp.

6. The girl is a high functioning autistic and she was interested in nature. I think she
decided to take a hike and obviously got very lost.

10. I think it's the real story and I'm soooo happy that she was found and is in good shape.

BTW----I don't believe god spoke to the man but I do believe he's most likely psychic, something that isn't part of his belief system (but part of mine).

3. The man who found and rescued her said that god told him where to find her.
He set out alone and prayed and received guidance where to go. He was questioned afterward by cops as being a suspect in her abduction but he was cleared. He just found her.

4. I could go either way. But the rescuer is really laying on the "God LITERALLY showed me the way"

"At one point, he used toilet paper to line trees in a nearby clearing to help attract the attention of the sheriff's helicopter. King said he took the toilet paper because the Lord directed him to do so and because it was biodegradable."

Extra points for getting the environmentally friendly stuff!

9. it's a MURACLE!
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 08:35 AM by sui generis
god saved her. I'm thinking maybe god mighta steered her to chuckie cheese instead of an alligator swamp in the first place, but hey, it's a muracle.

:eyes:

Define alligator infested. What a phrase. :P Also define swamp. The Amazing Generis is getting an image, all hollywood sensational of course, of alligators three deep in shoulder level quicksand with snakes and spanish moss hanging from trees . . . .

What a bunch of tripe the whole situation is. I think it was a publicity stunt.

11. I'm happy she is safe, but
also find it hard to believe, there are just so many questions that need to be answered! I'm not judging Mr King, I'm sure there is more to come. Maybe we are all so jaded by so many missing children we find it difficult to believe it true that he might just be a hero!

12. I'm Inclined To Believe It
Oh, I'm dubious about God's direction in all this, but that's a matter of perspective, eh? People attribute seemingly sudden and random inspiration attributed to the divine.

Hey, I'm no nature girl myself although what I've read of alligators indicates that if you leave them alone, they will leave you alone and they prefer to hunt in water, not on land. Alligators also prefer smaller prey.

She was supposedly covered with mosquito bites and dehydrated.

So it is a little odd, but for now I'm inclined to believe it.

14. I am suspicious.
I'm glad the young girl was found - regardless of the means used. But I think the "God instructed me where to go" comments are a slap in the face to all of the other parents of missing children whom God has NOT instructed someone to find.

If this story reveals itself to be genuine - so be it because, again, I'm glad the child is safe at home. But I think the authorities were absolutely correct in questioning the man, and I'll be interested to see if anything further develops from this situation.

something does feel off, yes. about that one.
but happy for the girl and her family of course.

16. Three things come to mind with this story
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 09:30 AM by SoCalDem
1, The little girl needs to be watched much more closely, and maybe should not be allowed to go off unaccompanied.

2. The rescuer set off my munchausen-by-proxy spidey senses

3. She's a very lucky child.

The whole "God saved her" thing must be of little comfort to the religious people whose children were murdered brutally:(

couldn't have survived? Really? 'Cause as the mother of an aspie, I could tell you six ways from Sunday what bullshit that is. I have no trouble at all believing this and much stranger things have happened.

This beautiful girl reminded me so much of my son, the way she talked and reacted afterwards. It almost could have been word-for-word what my son would have done and said.

I don't believe his story for a moment.
