I was walking toward my local grocery store...
...and there were 2 people outside with clipboards (older guy, middle-aged woman).

The older guy asked me, "Are you a registered voter?"
Me: "Yes."
Him: "Will you sign a petition to get ___ on the ballot?" (___ is some guy's name I didn't recognize)
Me: I looked more closely at the papers on his clipboard, trying to figure out who was running.
Him: "He's running against Barney Frank."
Me: I jumped back, and looked at him horrifically, and said "NO!!"

I was pretty surprised at my reaction. ANd so was he! It was a reflex ;)

Sorry I don't have a more interesting story of witty comebacks. I think he did get the idea that I wasn't going to sign his petition, let alone support his candidate. I'm sticking with Barney!

1. I've had the distinct pleasure of voting for Barney Frank
and my answer would have been exactly what yours was.

I might even have thrown in an "Are you nuts?" for good measure.

5. I will remember the "are you nuts?" for next time :)
That perfectly summarizes the thoughts I couldn't articulate :)

14. I was glad to find out what my true reaction is
I definitely enjoy Barney Frank's outspoken-ness. I don't want anyone to replace him.

3. I'm guessing it was...
Rachel Brown: LaRouche Activist running in the Democratic Primary

(too early in the season to be petitioning for the General Election)

6. You might be right, actually...
I didn't exactly hear the first name, and the last name was something like Brown

21. No it's probably Ed Sholley, teabagger and Repug
The petition gatherer said "He is running against", and Sholley is a king of paid signature gatherer and running against Frank, it might not actually have been for elections, he gathers signatures for a million issues, and I'm sure his signature gatherer's are not all that informed or honest, there called the "Sholley's Battalion".

4. I always get a big kick out of it when people mistake me for "one of them".
It's fun to watch their faces fall when you tell them the truth. It is especially amazing when you chat a bit first and they like you. They are always such strident and boring folks, it's fun to dump them.

I am so mean to 'Baggers...it's a huge catharsis!

8. I'm going to have to reassess my entire wardrobe...
... and dress less teabagger-like. :eyes:

Or maybe I can infiltrate their ranks  I wouldn't be able to fool them as long as you do though ;)

11. I get that a lot, too.
I get a lot of people thinking that I am 'one of them' based on my looks, and will laugh at their stupid racist Obama jokes.

They get upset when I tell them to go fuck themselves.

Just because I'm white, blue-collar, shave my head, have a goatee and go to gun shows doesn't mean I'm automatically a Teabagger racist asshole.

12. Baggers think that all White people are one of them.
You don't have to be old or be having a bad day. If you are friendly and have a little charm, people project your attributes onto their boring charmless selves.

Don't be so hard on yourself, these fools see a cool person and sadly want to be like them.

Of course you can also attract other emotionally intelligent folks but they are always liberals.

22. Yep. I run into them all the time here, too.
The locals around here, not just the baggers, think that every white person is Christian, Republican, and hates brown-skinned people of all shades--especially the ones living in the White House. I enjoy seeing the stunned looks on their faces when they find out that I'm not "one of them." They usually avoid me after that, which is fine, as I have no use for people like that.
