So let me get these Vatican talking points straight
A large, organized group of Jewish gay people have regular clandestine meetings where they somehow persuade and/or force Priests, presumably under much duress, to serially molest little Catholic children.

Do I have this about right?

24. While pointing at everyone and everything, spin around.
"They're to blame; they made us do it!"

2. Well, that'd be the beginning of it.
But of course the plot would have to continue on to the Jewish gay people contacting senior Catholic officials and convincing them to cover the whole thing up and keep it going as long as they could.

3. They have changed their excuses several times....
Before they blamed the Jewish people, they blamed the victims (who "seduced" them, at ages 9 through 12).

Andrew Sullivan at The Daily Dish has excellent coverage of the entire mess.

They have not accepted any blame. They have not shown any remorse.

22. God cursed the victims by making them children.
I came close to being molested by a Monsignor. He tried to get me drunk on Altar Wine but I excused myself and left.

I found out later that he had a notorious reputation in the local community but none had the courage to stand up to him.

5. No, you've missed a few.
So far I've counted Jews, gays, atheists, the victims themselves, protestants in general and the Devil. Tomorrow it'll be someone else. Maybe nuns. All those sexy outfits leading them astray. :eyes:

11. That's the problem
If a priest molests two or three kids, does that make them all bad? All they need to do is move them to a parish where there aren't so many hot kids. What's the problem?

12. It could totally solve the problem if the church would rank all their parishes by child hotness...
then just send the priests who exceed their molestation limit to one of the bottom-ranking ones. Wait-- what if that's what they've been doing all along?

All that raping of children must have been...conflicting, to say the least.

They all belong behind bars.

9. Celibate only means no marriage apparently.
It doesn't mean no sex, or no relationships. News to me, but I've been reliably informed my definition was wrong.

8. I guess I missed that announcement. I was raised a Catholic and I still pray to God,
but I haven't been too church on Sunday for several years. My cousin was planning to be a priest then changed hs mind. I;m not sure why, but he married a wonderful woman who takes very good care of him in his older years and he's very frail. I asked him about the child molestation and he said there were suspicions back when he was planing to join the proesthood but they never knew hw rampan it was or would become. BTW, he & his wife are no longer members of the Catholic Church. They've joined a Methodist Church & he is now a minister who is recognized as uch to perform marriages etc.

I attended 12 yers of Catholic School and I have to say I am ashamed of them now.

26. All of this...
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 11:08 AM by CoffeeCat
...is just too disgusting. It's so horrific it seems unreal.

Sure, there are a lot of "good Catholics" out there, but there
were many "good Germans" too.

When innocent people--say nothing and do nothing--despite the fact
that horrible crimes are being committed--they are compliant.
Giving money and showing up in the pews is support for a hierarchy
that rapes children, covers up the rape, supplies known child rapists
with fresh supplies of victims--and then blames the victims for
their own abuse.

It must be the Catholics who stand up and say, "No more" and demand
that the corrupt, pedophile-enabling hierarchy be booted out.

Otherwise--you are refusing to use your voice, actions and power to
put a stop to child rape.

You want to sit in those pews and pray--and claim that you have a wonderful
parish and a great priest? Fine, I'm sure all of that is true. However,
the money you give and the hierarchy you are supporting is a pedophile nest.

Do something about it. Please.

28. Don't forget Benedict blamed Irish secular society too
In recent decades, however, the Church in your country has had to confront new and serious challenges to the faith arising from the rapid transformation and secularization of Irish society. Fast-paced social change has occurred, often adversely affecting people's traditional adherence to Catholic teaching and values. All too often, the sacramental and devotional practices that sustain faith and enable it to grow, such as frequent confession, daily prayer and annual retreats, were neglected. Significant too was the tendency during this period, also on the part of priests and religious, to adopt ways of thinking and assessing secular realities without sufficient reference to the Gospel. The programme of renewal proposed by the Second Vatican Council was sometimes misinterpreted and indeed, in the light of the profound social changes that were taking place, it was far from easy to know how best to implement it. In particular, there was a well-intentioned but misguided tendency to avoid penal approaches to canonically irregular situations. It is in this overall context that we must try to understand the disturbing problem of child sexual abuse, which has contributed in no small measure to the weakening of faith and the loss of respect for the Church and her teachings.

I mean, it's traditional to blame the Irish for things, isn't it? And we know he's a stickler for tradition.
