Because Bush won't join her and meet with the mothers of dead soldiers? Because she's got to meet with someone?

12. Americans don't bow to royalty
we are the sovereigns of our nation -- but Liz has class to do this. Kudos to her.

14. She's wearing such a beautiful hat.
That's one thing I just love about British women, they all wear hats. It's so classy.

15. I think it's weird
I don't have a problem with her per se, but the thought that her blood is better than mine is insulting. Might just be me, though.

18. Well...
the thought that her blood is better than mine is insulting

Only a certain sect of the British public believes this anymore. And they regularly debate the value of having a royal family at all.

I certainly don't view her as having 'better blood' than me, but you don't have to think that to simply accept condolences from a visiting HoS. So you could think of it as accepting a kind of personal condolence from the British people.

10. say what you will about ol' Betty,
she's got more empathy and understanding in her hat pin than the Bush family has combined. If the VT Survivors want to meet her, accept her condolences and wishes for a speedy healing and continued strength, then let them do it. Knowing her, it won't be a 5 minute stroll for the sole benefit of the cameras like der chimpenheufer does.

she's got class.

21. A visiting head of state meeting with survivors of a recent tragedy?
Doesn't sound that strange to me. I commend her for it. It took our own head of state a week to get to New Orleans after one of the deadliest natural disasters in American history.

22. the purpose of her trip is to visit Virginia
to mark the 400th ANniversary of the founding of Jamestown. She was planning on visiting other locations in Virginia as well, including Richmond, Norfolk and Williamsburg. Adding Blacksburg to her itinerary seems like a reasonable move and a nice gesture on her part.

wasn't a very positive outcome for the British.

24. She's paying a state visit to Virginia, and we're still technically in mourning..
our flags are still at half-staff, so it's just an official recognition of the recent tragedy. That's my guess.

28. I am curious as to why she is visiting the U.S. period.
I know that it is said she is here because of the anniversary of the founding of Jamestown but that seems so weak. I guess the state dinner will be a distraction.

Wonder if they have talked the Queen into giving any interviews to like Larry King or Brian Williams. I just feel like the WH probably begged her to come and they are just using her.

On the other hand, she does know her horse flesh and she is going to the Derby. Maybe she just wanted to visit the colonies.

32. The Queen does not give interviews
I really think she is here for the 400th anniversary of Jamestown - the trip has been planned for months, perhaps years. She hasn't been to the US since the early '90s.
