Karl Rove Is An Athiest ---->>>
Edited on Thu May-03-07 01:30 PM by Stephanie
As per Christopher Hitchens.

http://nymag.com/arts/books/features/31244/

Are You There, God? It's Me, Hitchens.
Christopher Hitchens on religion (no thanks), Iraq (not a mistake), and his own loud reputation.
By Boris Kachka

<excerpt>

Do you think an avowed atheist would ever get elected in the U.S.?

Yes. I do not believe any of the statistical claims that are made about public opinion. I don’t see why anybody does.

Has anyone in the Bush administration confided in you about being an atheist?

Well, I don’t talk that much to them—maybe people think I do. I know something which is known to few but is not a secret. Karl Rove is not a believer, and he doesn’t shout it from the rooftops, but when asked, he answers quite honestly. I think the way he puts it is, “I’m not fortunate enough to be a person of faith.”

What must Bush make of that?

I think it’s false to say that the president acts as if he believes he has God’s instructions. Compared to Jimmy Carter, he’s nowhere. He’s a Methodist, having joined his wife’s church in the end. He also claims that Jesus got him off the demon drink. He doesn’t believe it. His wife said, “If you don’t stop, I’m leaving and I’m taking the kids.” You can say that you got help from Jesus if you want, but that’s just a polite way of putting it in Texas.

1. Wait. Being "godless" isn't the same as being "atheist," is it?

19. Well it's a direct answer to a direct question so I assume that's what he meant.
He doesn't call him "godless" either - he says "not a believer" - but he was asked about athiests so I assume he's just couching it gently.

3. Hey!
If there's one entity in all of Creation who's certain to believe in God, it's the devil.

So atheism makes one no closer to devilhood than anything else.

21. And yet, he attends the same church as Joe Wilson--
WILSON: That's exactly right. It is really compromising her identity. But, calling her Wilson's wife or calling her Valerie Plame or calling her Valerie Wilson. When you associate the name or the identity with CIA, you have blown her cover.

Now, I'm prepared to think the worst of Karl Rove ever since he told Chris Matthews that my wife was fair game. And that's tough for me because Karl and I go to the same church. We go to different services, we go to the same church. I know his wife's name because we get a church newsletter. So, why he wouldn't know my wife's name, perhaps he doesn't read the newsletter.

The man doesn't draw a breath of air without first considering how he can exploit the oxygen for political gain. Very easy to believe he would maintain a church membership solely for networking, public show of piety, maintain a familiarity with Christian lingo and trends, etc.

the Godfather of the Neocons, although both profess(ed) it publically. Rove's dummie B* is just putting on the Rovian/Machiavellian show of faith. Any Christian or God believing person would know that B* is no Christian. I don't know why there continues to be any doubt about this awful and destructive myth.

..."compassionate", 'plain-spoken', 'patient', 'willing to listen', 'just plain 'folk', 'a person who cares about the oppressed'... this is getting nauseating- you get the point- I don't hold much confidence in *'s claim to be anything- except a human being.

Anyone can 'claim' they are anything- that doesn't make it so- I would never judge my brothers and sisters who declare themselves Atheists- by the measure of mr.Rove.

- He is a very ruthless, cold, calculating man, who has access to too much power. His claim of Atheism is not the 'cause' of his repugnant actions, and beliefs- anymore than his receding hairline is.

peace,
