UN judge calls for prosecution of Pope Benedict
UN judge calls for prosecution of Pope Benedict

By Stephen C. Webster
Saturday, April 10th, 2010 -- 4:56 pm

Geoffrey Robertson, a renowned human rights lawyer and United Nations jurist, wants to see Pope Benedict put on trial for allegedly protecting predator priests.

In a Guardian UK piece making its rounds this week in Catholic circles, Robertson demanded the pope be "put in the dock" so that the church might "feel the full weight of international law" over its thousands of pedophilia scandals.

The pope's conduct, he said, "amounted to the criminal offence of aiding and abetting sex with minors," making Benedict a justifiable target for either the International Criminal Court or a British court acting under the legal principal of universal jurisdiction.

2. Lest we forget, Bush WANTED this guy to become Pope
Innocent until proven guilty, yes, but this isn't looking good for Ratzinger at all.

4. When I first saw Ratz I didn't like him. It was like he wanted it too bad. He looked
entitled. He didn't have that air of compassion about him.

I hope they put Ratz through the wringer.

6. Yeah, that was my reaction too.
This rat-bastard wanted too bad to be pope, that he may have rigged the voting.

8. I always thought Ratzinger looked like...
a heartlesss, evil pedophile-enabling, lying, corrupt piece of slime from the bottom of
a New Jersey scum swamp.

I guess you can judge a book by its cover.

Who knew?

9. There is power in SAYING it though..
...there is power in suggesting that this Pope be put away for
his compliance. He put serial pedophiles around children and these
children were molested and those victims were vilified by the Church
when they came forward.

Evil like that is gut wrenching.

There is power when someone in a position of authority calls out
the power structures and dares to call a spade a spade.

The greatest friend to pedophiles is silence. When anyone breaks the silence--whether
they're telling their story of abuse or whether it's someone sticking up for these
children and calling for justice--it is healing and it is powerful.

Sometimes, the chorus of revolution is sparked by a single voice.

12. Unfortunately I agree
The pope really should resign over this scandal, but instead he's just going to keep on waiting out the scandal and survive anyway.

13. I agree. Like an upthread poster said, he feels entitled.
He will only resign if a strong majority of the conservative cardinals who elected him pressure him to do so. Can't see that happening. They are hiding their own scandalous secrets.
