Mother Never Told Me There'd Be Days Like This
Mother never told me: Someday the jackals and idiots will take over the country and destroy everything it stands for. You have some choices to make: you can keep a low profile, husband your resources, keep your loved ones alive, healthy and safe as best you can, and when opportunity comes, you can take it.

The opportunity might be to help rescue the country from its destroyers.

Or it might be to flee to safety with as many family and friends as you can.

Mother couldn't imagine such events. She died 12 years ago, missing everything after the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke out.

But her grandmother could have said as much, and she did.

Babcia left a farm in Poland, a country that did not officially exist and hadn't for 150 years, where she had no prospects, to come to the New World. She worked in the silk mills in Massachusettsde actual money which was a novelty for her, married and eventually settled in Detroit, raised her family, grew peaches, picked and canned mushrooms from Michigan's forests, and did all the housewifely tasks right in the city, fifth largest in the nation. She sent her daughter to college, bought a home, and lived into her 90's, missing as personal experience two world wars, concentration camps, starvation and disease, the Bolshevik revolution, the Iron Curtain, the Cold War, and Solidarnosz.

Where can her descendants flee? Where is a refuge from Goldman Sachs and racism and the sheer stupidity, cupidity, and complicity of war criminals and their financiers? When the President decides he can order your death, YOU, one of his bosses who hired him, without a trial or due process, where is safety anymore?

I don't think even Babcia would have an answer to that.

Anything that falls outside of your ignorant world view is now classified as "Drama".

Please, Grow Up, my little self-proclaimed "Corporatist".

3. Where is the refuge from....
Where is the refuge from the insurance company death panels that stand between you and your physician? The insurance company death panels place their bottom line first and the health and well-being of the patient last. The refuge would be Canada, I guess, where medical insurance companies do not exist, except for dental care, vision care and those (cheaper) precription drugs when they aren't covered by the government funded, physician run Canadian health care system. Here in Canada, 100% of Canadian residents (citizens and landed immigrants) have access to health care that many of them would be denied in the United States, due to the astronimcal rates, massive overhead, and massive bureaucracy of the American insurance industry. It is because of the inferiority of an insurance run health care system that Canada went to a national single payer system in 1966, after it had been instituted and proven successful in Saskatchewan by Premier Tommy Douglas (voted the most outstanding Canadian) in 1947..

9. She sounds like my Gram-ma Anna Kapeki
She would be so upset with this crappy pope. She did so much embroidery for her church, "Christ the King," in NW Detroit.

I remember when my Mom, Gram-ma, and 2 of my aunts sat me down when I was about 9 and told me about the Nazis. Some of our Polish relatives were in hospitals for 10 years recovering from crazy tortures.

I was shaken-ed and awakened to the truth about the evil of fascist, racist ideas.

I threw up later and my Mom said she was sorry I had to know.
