Moscow City Council asks Walmart not to close Moscow store

The Moscow City Council recently sent a letter to Walmart President Mike Duke requesting the corporation keep its Moscow store open after a Walmart Supercenter opens in Pullman later this year. In the letter, the council expressed its concern for the community’s dependence on the store and the inconvenience it may cause some if it closes, as well as the loss of jobs and tax revenues. The letter was signed by the entire council, and encourages Walmart to consider remodeling its Moscow store or relocating as an alternative to closing the store.

Moscow you gave them everything they asked for when they came to town, now they will leave you with a giant empty building no one can possibly afford to rent. The tax-free status you handed them will now be lost on the revenue you WILL NOT make on this soon to be empty shell. Are you watching Pullman? You're next.

3. Don't know if it was done in Moscow
but when they came into my town, they built additional store fronts across the parking lot from their store. When retailers do this, they control who moves into those stores and do not allow direct competition. They sit empty for ages and I suppose they get a tax write-off until a desirable suits them.

When Home Base left, the movie theatre in the center closed, as did at he other stores & restaurants. All that's left is a HUMONGOUS parking lot and a whole-lotta-empty..:( We all pay for the cost of keeping it vandal-free and the lost taxes they paid and the workers there paid..
