Remember when U.S. troops threatened to shoot Washington Post reporter Doug Struck?
http://www.rcfp.org/news/2002/0212postre.html

Feb 12, 2002

A Washington Post reporter said an unidentified U.S. troop leader threatened to shoot him if he went near the scene of a U.S. missile strike in Afghanistan last week.

In an audio interview on the Post's Web Site, Doug Struck said he was in a car when he approached a site surrounded by armed American soldiers. He got out of the vehicle, and a commander told him "don't move or we'll shoot."

In the interview, Struck recounted his experience: He was detained at gunpoint from 15 to 20 minutes while he explained that he was an American reporter. The commander, who refused to identify himself, continued to deny Struck access to the scene. Struck persisted and asked what would happen if he went forward. Again, he was told he would be shot.

At a news briefing, Rear Adm. John Stufflebeem, a spokesman for the Department of Defense, said he wasn't sure he believed Struck was threatened.

"To believe that a U.S. American serviceman would knowingly threaten, especially with deadly force, another American is hard for me to accept," Stufflebeem said.

11. Yes. I''ve been thinking about his story a lot lately
and posted the F.A.I.R article from April 2003 a couple times recently.

That marked the moment of no return for CNN in its IW coverage and all the rest saw the example.

I still vividly remember all the retired TV generals being lined up and targeted with barely concealed accusations of *treason* by Rumsfeld/Rice/Tenet against the backdrop of Centcomm one of those very first Sunday talk-show mornings after the invasion. Some of them thought they still had free speech and could still be side-ways critical of "the guy in the pin-striped suit in the Pentagon" in those very first days. They too were summarily threatened and silenced.

And some of them eventually signed up for the paid scripts.

Everyone here should revisit the F.A.I.R account of those first days.

12. Corporate McPravda doesn't care when one of its own is killed by traitors.
They've fallen for the Cause. When innocent people are murdered by the whim of office holders, this no longer is the United States of America.

I'm sick of the apologists for these illegal, immoral and unnecessary wars. The press and internets are filled with them.

Remember the story of Giuliana Sgrena? She's a journo who narrowly escaped being murdered on her way out of Baghdad.

Thank you for the information at FAIR, chill_wind. Good people there, too.
