LINTON, Utah - A stray dog is recovering after getting run over by a freight train — twice.

Fred Krause of Utah Railway Company says he spotted the cream-colored Shih Tzu on the tracks near Kearns High School on Sunday. He says there was no way to stop the train before it ran over the dog, which was small enough to avoid actually being hit.

Krause says he spotted the same dog on the return trip and this time the pup wasn't so lucky. The dog was running on the tracks and got whacked by the train's snowplow.

Krause drove back to the site later and found the dog, which was still dazed and lying on the tracks.

Krause and his family are nursing the dog back to health and calling him "The Little Guy."

This April 7, 2010 picture shows Fred Krause, a train driver from Clinton, Utah holding a Shih Tzu dog he rescued on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 after running him over twice with his freight train before being able to stop and look for him. The dog had long grown-out fur, an eye infection and other problems but Fred and his wife Lori think he will recover. They are looking for the original owners of the dog, or a good home. 5. lucky indeed!
He still looks dazed!

150,000 tons of train vs. 15 lbs. of puppy usually doesn't end so well.

7. If he actually got hit, I'm surprised the blow didn't literally knock his
eyeballs out of their sockets.

Sorry for the visual imagery. But those bug-eyed pups are prone to that.......
