MILF assigns guards for int'l peace monitors

MANILA, Philippines - The Moro Islamic Liberation Front on Sunday said it has assigned 20 MILF fighters to guard international peace monitors in 4 different sites in Mindanao.

MILF peace panel chairman Mohagher Iqbal said he appointed the 20 MILF security personnel for the Malaysia-led International Monitoring Team (IMT) last April 1. The security team will be assigned at IMT Headquarters in Cotabato City, Team Site 1 in Cotabato City, Team Site 2 in Iligan City, Team Site 3 in Zamboanga City, and Team Site 4 in General Santos City.

The IMT is presently composed of representatives of Malaysia, Brunei, Libya and Japan while the governments of Indonesia, Qatar and Norway were also invited by GRP and MILF peace panels to join IMT. It is tasked to monitor the implementation of the cease-fire, rehabilitation, development and humanitarian aspects of the GRP-MILF peace process.
