All Right Now, Listen Up
Here is the proof, how many times have DU'ers said "thats not right" Of course you don't necessarily know the age of the poster but if it comes up pay attention.

Being older is being wiser

It turns out grandma was right: Listen to your elders. New research indicates they are indeed wise — in knowing how to deal with conflicts and accepting life's uncertainties and change.

It isn't a question of how many facts someone knows, or being able to operate a TV remote, but rather how to handle disagreements — social wisdom.

1. Age gives additional opportunity to develop wisdom not the wisdom it's self
There are at least as many dumbasses that are long in the tooth as dumbasses that are wet behind the ears.

2. The U.S Chamber of Commerce is not our friend
Julius H. Barnes, president of Chamber of Commerce, in 1928 had this to say, "The best public servant is the worst one."

You want bad people in government. You want to deliberately staff government with second-rate people. Because if you have good people in government, government will work. And then the public will learn to trust government. And then they'll hand over more power to it.

A few days ago there was a topic posted on the U S Chamber of Commerce. I found this bit of info and decided to pass it along simply because my beginning post was so darn short.

people power, however their lack of technological prowess has "left them behind" to a certain degree, more dependent on the corporate media for their information with the result of having their anger misdirected toward government instead of corporate domination of government.

Even wise people can be mislead for a time, if given enough false information.

I also believe that time window of opportunity for the corporate supremacists is running out, as older people increasingly log on to the Internet discovering new ways to find their own information.

4. I don't know. I think being older just makes some people meaner than
a bobcat with no asshole.

:P

Wisdom? I just think that means know thyself and accept others who do the same. DU should not be a competition to see how many people agree with you.

Most of the conflict here arises out of people not accepting that other people may disagree with them, followed by name calling, flame wars, lingering dislikes and tens of thousands of deleted posts and the Tomb of the unknown number of tombstoned members.

That's funny! Yeah, I've known a couple of people who have gotten awfully mean as they've gotten older, but most people seem to get better with age from what I've seen.

9. You have a lot of faith .....
I am 62 now, and personally i think I am getting meaner. Of course I haven't checked to make sure my asshole is still there, but it might have left during the night.

Getting meaner is a legacy for older people. When you're a kid you have to go through all your relatives telling you to be "good." As you grow into adulthood there are other people telling you what would constitute a "good" life for you whether that is what you want or not.

The only time you can get mean with impunity is when you get old. People kind of expect it of you then. My mother once showed me an article which said that old people were hated because they are usually hateful. I thought that sounded good and I have been waiting ever since.

Wisdom though? Forgedda about it. I'm getting old enough that I am too tired to think.

10. LOL I know that feeling, too tired to think - rop
I'm only 48 but I feel much older. Have chronic kidney disease (don't need dialysis just yet, thank goodness) and some female-type health problems and I'm just dead tired. I have no ambition anymore. I just want to get through life and spend as much time as possible either sleeping or lying down.

Don't know if I'm meaner but I'm less willing at this point to try to gain favor with others - less influenced by what others think.

Growing older isn't for sissies I guess, like the book said.

11. I'm sorry to hear that you are ill ...
I have Multiple Sclerosis and I know the feeling of fatigue well. I'll have to share a little plaque that my friend gave me when the symptoms got so bad I couldn't work anymore. It says, "I used to run with the wolves. Now I nap with the cats." Apt and fitting.;)

I think as we get older we become more aware of how the world works. We have learned a lot, experienced a lot. I know my opinions have gotten more definite and I am less and less willing to give up on them unless someone makes a really compelling reason for me to do so. I value logic more, and like you, what people think doesn't much matter. I am what I am, and I got here the hard way.

You don't sound mean to me. Just the opposite. Firm and steady. That is a good thing. Take care of yourself. It is good to meet you.

13. I tolerate fools quite a bit less
I don't feel the need to suck up to people as much. I don't feel the need to wear makeup. I don't care what I wear or how my hair looks. I'm not a tight ass like I was as a youngin' Wise? I dunno.

14. Oh, bless you.
Saying prayers for your health. Jeez, there I was complaining about my stupid little health problems and there you are grappling bravely every day with something that's REALLY a real health problem. I'm such a whiner. I wish you good health and happiness for the days you have left here on this earth, and I wish you joy when you are reunited with the light someday as we all will be.

I like that saying, napping with the cats. I actually really do nap with my cat some days. She's a pretty little Himalayan and when I wake up, she gets up and stretches and walks over to me on the top of the covers for some pets. She sure is a good little companion.

The older I get, the less I trust authority I think. The more I distrust people who try to control other people, like you see in churches, etc. I no longer wish to be any part of any heirarchy.

The older I get the more clearly I see how hard life is for all of us and I feel so much sympathy and empathy. I feel sorry for young people who still have (probably)so many years of struggle ahead of them. I actually feel lucky that I probably only have a decade or two left on earth (Stage IIIb kidney disease, even if it doesn't get worse I will be likely to die of heart disease early, bad kidneys are hard on the heart I guess) because I think life is very hard and I think it's going to get even harder if things like peak oil and water shortages end up being as bad as some people say they will. I guess I'm getting even more pessimistic than ever in my old age.

I'm glad you are here sharing your wisdom. I look forward to reading more of your posts!

Sorry for going on and on. I talk too much sometimes. Or write too much, LOL.

16. My partner tells me that I'm the least likely person to bow to authority
That's becoming more obvious. It's almost a disdain.

One thing that hasn't changed about me as I head into older age is my idealism. I keep getting hurt because I'm such an idealist and yet, it stays.

Now I'm old, and I realize that I was right.
