Re: SOS for Crawford Peace House
Here is the message from Dr. Northcutt about recent news stories regarding the foreclosure of the Peace House. Thanks to those of you who expressed an interest. Kay

Since the Crawford Texas Peace House has been the subject of discussion and controversy over the last two weeks, I would like to make a few observations. First, I respect and admire Johny Wolfe, Kay Lucas, Hadi Jawad, and Skip Landos for their inspiration and work in establishing and maintaining the Peace House. Over the last year I have attended several meetings with about half a dozen activists, including Johny, concerning the future of the Peace House. Johny indicated he wished to be off the mortgage as soon as possible and I stated I would try to work out a way to buy the house. And the group would work toward the concept of the Crawford Peace Museum and Gardens which would house the artifacts from the protests during the Bush years and have a video continually playing which would chronicle the events of the era. With my real estate attorney’s opinion we had a proposal to undertake a short sale of the Peace House which would be legal, allow me to save the house from foreclosure, and get Johny out from under the mortgage. The foreclosure sale was thus postponed. For whatever reason, Johny declined to accept the short sale. So Johny has another plan to save the Peace House apparently. I wish him well and hope that it is successful. I want the Peace Museum and Gardens to live on as an historical and educational monument, and I am happy with whatever method allows that to occur.

3. Thanks.
Although I've been reading here for years, I'm not to experienced in how to work with a post in hopes to reach those who showed interest in previous threads about this issue. Especially proudtobelibKansas.

8. Hi A
At this point I'm not sure what to do. I an just trying to help Alan get his perspective out there. That original letter from Johnny made it seem like a hostile was trying to buy the place and we just were concerned that folks might get the wrong impression. We were just trying to help save the place.

7. I love your avatar!
Dreamcatchers! We used to buy them for my late mother in law who was a quarter Cherokee. I'm thinking that I need one above my head when I sleep now, just to catch the bad dreams.

This will kick it again, and hopefully proud2belibinkansas, one of my favs will see it. Welcome.:hi:

10. Thank you tnlefty I have several of them in my house.
I once thought I had cherokee blood, but recently found out it was Choctaw. :~}
I'm not really that new. I'm still on dial up so it makes it difficult to post and follow a thread. But I have really enjoyed the wealth of information on this site. A truly bunch of informed folks inhabit these key strokes.

14. No. The Peace House was established on Easter Sunday
2003. Long before Cindy and Camp Casey happened in Aug 05. The peace house facilitated the Camp Casey event.
There were actually two Camp Caseys in 05. The first was along side of the road where the police stopped the march, complete with a small food service area . The second was in a 1 acre field that was donated by a local landowner after the multitude of people showed up. We rented a very large tent for that space and set up another kitchen.

We also had a kitchen in town at the peace house, along with a large dining tent. There were people camping at all three locations. Most of the logistics were coordinated out of the peace house. Porta Potties, water, ice, food, first aid, etc. A total of about 20,000 came through the house during a 3 1/2 week marathon.

15. No it is a house and Camp Casey is a piece of land down the road
The Peace House is in town. Camp Casey is a multi acre piece of land on the edge of town. Cindy bought it and then sold it to Bree Walker.

There is no running water at Camp Casey. And no permanent structures. Electricity is from generators. (At least that's how it was last time I was there.) So the Peace House is where we took showers and cooked meals. In 2005, when Camp Casey was a tent on an acre of land out by Dubya's ranch, it would never have thrived without the support of the Peace House.

And GrannyK is a terrific lady who lives in a town down the road and ran the Peace House while we were at Camp Casey. She is awesome. :)

16. I'm not sure about the 'lady' part, but thanks for the
compliment.
We had many events before 2005. In fact there was an incident in May 2003 that ultimately allowed Cindy to at least get down the road past Crawford.
Five people were arrested and taken to jail, tried and found guilty for protesting without a permit. When it was appealed the judge threw it out as unconstitutional. The five filed suit against the city and it cost the city S42,000.

19. That 'lady' thing became a joke in my family when my brother
told me that a lady couldn't climb a tree or play baseball or say a cuss word now and then.
I told him that's just okay with me, if I can't enjoy life the same as a man then don't worry about it. I was just fine without that title.

You know that I've always admired you and your never ending defense of education and veterans issues.
