if the battle between the republicans and democrats was a movie
what would it be? I could see it as Animal House. The Republicans being the Omega House and the Democrats being the Delta House.:toast:

2. The Stand
It's on Syfy right now, and I found myself thinking that the republicans/teabaggers would follow Flag, and the dems would follow Mother Abigail.

4. If its anything apocalyptic, it would be "The Road"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0898367/

The Dad is the Monsanto corporation and the child represents the Congress. The real voters were portrayed by the mom who commits suicide to avoid the hopelessness and meaninglessness all around

8. Its not as quality as "Going Overboard", but give it a shot
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096870/

Another highly political movie that is incredibly thought provoking. Rent both, and let me know which one impacts your understanding of the world the most.

20. I detest that movie
Might as well have a bunch of hammy black stetsons argue with a bunch of hammy white fedoras.

21. Hmm, that's too easy.
I've read The Stand many times.

I can see many DUers following the Walking Dude.

10. OMG--I've always said that one of my problems with
Republicans is that they come off like the prick Frat-house villians in every college movie since "Animal House".

Although I think "Revenge of the Nerds" is the most appropriate. They are the dumb-jock Alpha Beta's, whilst Dems are the brainy and diverse Tri-Lam's.

"Weeeee are the championnnnsss, mah friiieeeedsss....."

29. Another example I can think of is Mr. Woodcock
Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 03:49 PM by LeftWingPunk
Jasper Woodcock, while a teacher, is probably a diehard conservative. His former student John Farley I could see as a moderate or liberal.

13. Good grief! You have to ask? Star Wars! However clumsily George Lucas may have scripted it,
The battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance is the battle between conservatives and liberals. Lucas himself is an unapologetic liberal who used the direction the country was going it after 9/11 to inspire Star Wars II and III. (Star Wars I was released in 1999, still in the Clinton era.)

19. 1977. They had liberals and conservatives back then, too.
The culture wars were nearly the same, too. Roe vs. Wade was brand-new. Young people who publicly urged America to stop the unmitigated slaughter of innocent people 13,000 miles away were called "un-American". Right-wing evangelicals were reading Apocalyptic shitheads like Hal Linsey and praying for the end of the world, etc...

George Lucas made a small film about the struggle between right-wing military/industrial powers, and progressive, freedom-loving resistance fighters. It became a cultural icon.
