They got some MINOR damage in Mexicalli
according to the media types locally.

Damn they are so disappointed... no hospitals pancaked, or thousands of dead...

Oh and for those that need it... :sarcasm:

4. This the longest, most powerful quake the area has ever experienced.
That according to a geology prof from a local university who was just interviewed on the news.

20 times the force of the Haiti quake and we got minor damage.

For all of you right-wingers on both sides of the border who don't like government regulations, please enjoy not having been squashed.

7. And the regulations go on both sides
now in the ciudades perdidas that could be a different story... but hey, we are doing fine. And I have not to wonder if our Search and Rescue will do fine.

5. The Sheraton Harbor Island here in San Diego
was evacuated and they evaluating it for structural integrity. Realize that this same hotel was DAMAGED during the Northridge quake.

And we are having structural engineers in other places.

8. This is the third big quake in three months though...
all 6.9-ish... Haiti and Chile are near the same longitude... though considerably East of Mexicali.

Spooky synchronicity can be read into it with relative ease... I wonder how long before evangelicals begin attributing them to God's Anger over Health Care Reform (how long after the Senate passed their version did the Haiti quake hit? The House and Chile? The Senate's reconciliation vote and Mexicali...)

Fret not... there's always an angle for a story... :tinfoilhat:

12. An earthquake a month until 2012?
Is Billy Graham still alive to blame it on consideration of the repeal of DADT?

Let's see... 8 more months in 2010, 12 for 2011... that's 20 more earthquakes... hmm, did the Maya happen to mention which month in 2012 the world will end?

As I see it, we can start a pool... a DU pool, if you will... and we can all bet on where the 6.5 + earthquake will strike each month. Some lucky DU-er might well be rich come the apocalypse...

I think I'm gonna lay my money on Switzerland... things are just too orderly there... they need a little "shaking up"...

13. Yes, yes they did...
specifically December 12, when we cross the Galactic Alignment.

I must say that is PRETTY impressive astronomy, but the year does not end on December 31st every year either... the true believers hate it when I point this out. Chances are the Long Count will just ahem reset.

Oh and yes, their astronomy is very impressive.
