9. Thanks.
Yeah, the guy from the center gave me a non-warning, warning. "You will visit all matter of residences and units and met all matter of people during your rounds."

Which I assume means I could run into anything from a nice old lady who gives me a cool class of lemonade to an angry teabagger chasing me off the porch with a baseball bat. ;-)

10. 8 weeks at 13.25 per hour. Plus 50 cents for each gas mile.
It will help out a lot! I'm hoping to get at least 20 hours a week.

11. I'm waiting for a rehire
I did the first round where we delivered to rural homes. Now I'm waiting to hear on the next round. I know I already missed the first training because we were working. I hope it doesn't get screwed up.

Congratulations, it is the BEST JOB! And it pays 50 cents a mile too, so volunteer to go to rural areas.

17. I'm a little put off by some of the questions...
Like getting fired/quitting my last job and I have a couple of misdemeanors in the last 10 yrs on my record. I've passed background checks to work at events like the G8 Conference and the DNC. Still might give it a shot.

24. Hey, it's interesting reading people's "explanations"
When the tests come in, we have to check and see if they have explained those firings/quittings/arrests/etc/ in their past. Apparently, submission to authority, no matter how loony  and harebrained :silly: it is, is a thing to be valued in the American employee.

32. Oh I have good explanations.
I might send it in anyway with my "explanations". Like I said I had all access at last year's DNC after a Secret Service background check. I'm just worried that they'll find out I post on DU!

44. Here's the deal:
Lie on your application. If you don't pass the BG check, that's their problem, not yours.

You've never been fired, you don't owe the feds any money, and you have no criminal record. :P

20. I don't think the Census Questions are that invasive....
however, the right wing is freaked out about it.

You Name?
Your Age?
Do you LIve there?
Are you a citizen?

Not what I would call invasive questions?

28. I've been working for the Census for a little over a year
Main difference is that I have been working in the office all that time. It pays less than the field work, but has been a lot more steady.

Positives:
- Really great co-workers! I love them!
- Knowing that your work matters and will be used for generations
- Pretty good pay (it varies depending on where you live)

Negatives:
- Shortages of critical materials, poor and often late training materials, buggy software, inadequate office space and equipment.
- HQ is obsessed with production goals at the expense of accuracy and completeness. The regional managers literally compete with each other to complete operations early and apply a great deal of pressure on the local offices. This has lead to over-hiring and much shorter work for those hired - especially for field enumerators. It also adds quite a bit of stress for the middle management.
- Depending on where you work, you may find some hostile respondents and even a few that seem dangerous.

40. Grrr...I'm getting the high hat! I got 24/28 which I thought would be more than good enough
since passing was like 11 and arrogantly didn't re-test. Still, I tend to doubt that wouldn't do.

Congratulations to you though!!!

41. I worked the 1990 census.
I was pregnant, had moved to a new city, and didn't want to try for a long term job when I planned to be a stay-at-home mom. It was perfect for me, and interesting.
