1. Don't want too much of that "employment" stuff going around.
People might start getting above themselves, think they have "rights," vote with their wallets: that kind of stuff. Only bad things happen when the serfs get cash in their pockets, dontcha know?

4. Probably the same line of reasoning that's making many corporations...
...horde cash, even though the economy is improving: they don't want to take on employees in case the recovery is just a flash in the pan. Of course, no corporation actually wants employees cluttering up the place; they're just a necessary evil until autonomous robots come along and replace them. In the meantime, expect Wall Street to penalize the stock prices of corporations hiring "too many" new employees. Particularly expensive American ones.

5. Well, it does depend on the types of jobs and the pay check home.
If you are working 3 jobs, is that viable? If you are re-hired at a pay cut, is that financially viable in the long term? A job is great, but how many careers are happening? AND the model of consume, consume, consume cannot continue. There has to be an economy that doesn't continue to destroy our habitat.

7. All very true. The current model isn't sustainable, but...
...most people don't have the assets to wait around until something better comes along. They need jobs so they can eat and take care of basic necessities like heat, light and rent.

13. I agree, something is better than nothing, however, by containing the current system
its harder to make changes.. it keeps the money people in power and more powerful than before. The "too big to fail" is still in place. I understand a magic wand doesn't happen automatically, but keeping those who are failures in the system, at the top of the system, is going to make the long road a tough one to muck thru.. and now, off-shore drilling in my back door.. its disgusting.

6. Whenever I hear that, my first thought usually is;
How many were living wage jobs? How many have benefits? Nobody ever says...

10. CNN reported that 40,000 of those jobs are census worker jobs &
that another 40-some-thousand are temporary workers. I read that we need approximately 100,000 jobs a month just to keep up with the influx of new workers. So we're still a long way from the numbers this country really needs.

We're facing a dreadful Catch-22. To maintain the middle class, America needs decent paying, full time jobs - not temp jobs & not fast food jobs. We're never going to have the jobs we need until we bring manufacturing back to this country & the corporations are not going to do that until they've gotten the wages down to $8-$10 an hour, so consequently, we'll never have the jobs we need to rebuild the middle class. Arghh! :banghead:

8. All those temporary Census Taker jobs are included in the "numbers" going up. . .
so in that instance, no, it's at best ephemeral "good news," since the unemployment numbers will rise once that temporary work expires.

14. I think what they mean is that many of the jobs are temporary census ones..so they
are saying "is this really good news?". The jobs number may be misleading.
