Giving the Chamber of Commerce a Piece of Our Mind

http://www.americanrightsatwork.org/employee-free-choice-act/latest-updates/giving-the-chamber-of-commerce-a-piece-of-our-mind-20091208-851-83-83.html

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has spent tens of millions of dollars to block labor law reform and spread lies about unions. They've also stood in the way of climate change legislation and health insurance reform. But now the Chamber is feeling the pressure. Across the country and online, people are standing up to say the U.S. Chamber doesn't speak for them.

* Labor, environmental, and small-business advocates protested in San Francisco at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's conference, joining similar protests in Philadelphia and Chicago.

* Over 24,000 people and nearly 4,000 small business owners have signed our "Not My Chamber" pledge.

* Our "Not My Chamber" tweet-a-thon was a huge success. Our Twitter petition to the Chamber is now the top-performing Twitter petition of all time. It was even signed by the Boulder Chamber of Commerce.

* Hundreds of Employee Free Choice and clean energy advocates left comments on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's facebook page supporting good jobs, green jobs, and union jobs. The Chamber continues to delete them periodically, but can’t keep up!

As the Chamber is discredited, lawmakers are feeling the pressure to stand with workers, not the Chamber, and pass the Employee Free Choice Act.

1. I did not renew my membership this year.
Throughout the fall I was getting inundated with propaganda about HCR, so I let the membership expire, and told them why.
Our health care expenses have been out of control for the past ten years. Doing nothing was not an option.

2. Just a reminder for everyone
The US Chamber of Commerce has nothing to do with your local chamber. Please don't call them up and start bellowing at them for something they didn't do, ok?

3. Don't be so sure..... our local Chamber as well as in the last town we lived in, threw
huge amounts of money at Republican causes, agendas, etc.....I think it depends on the Chamber.
