Today’s question on Happy Hour on Fox Business at 5 p.m. ET is: IS THE PRESIDENT JUST NOT GOOD AT TAKING CRITICISM?? It’s based on this AP article: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5g9yF1824vAvZcbK-z2mIowU0YsHwD9EQTKDO0

Nancy’s response:

The President already has thick skin about the name calling. I think what he is “troubled by” is the concentration of right wing talk radio that deliberately lies about what he is doing and plays on people’s fears. Take the healthcare debate. In June 2009, the same plan had widespread support across the political spectrum, including a majority of Republicans supporting it. Limbaugh, Beck and the army of right wing radio hosts started the “government takeover, death panel, etc.” rhetoric and in the end, the support was very polarized, 80% of Republicans hated it and 80% of Democrats supported it.

It’s troubling that the truth can get so removed from reality about important public policy. It’s a political winner take all mentality that is so troubling. That’s a break from the great traditions of this country.
