The Rude Pundit - Kansas Late-Term Aborts Scott Roeder from Society

That's convicted doctor murderer Scott Roeder, yelling, "Blood of babies on your hands" or some such blabber as he's led away in handcuffs to begin a sentence of life without the possibility of parole for 50 years. After 50 years, he's eligible to be considered for parole. He'd be 102. He's dying in prison.

Of course, Roeder's insane. He stalked and murdered George Tiller for performing a legal medical procedure. But to declare Roeder insane would be tantamount to declaring the entire anti-choice movement insane. And, however true, such breathtakingly sweeping statements are beyond our capabilities these days.

Roeder's true spiritual soulmate is Nidal Malik Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter, who apparently believed he was stopping Muslims in Iraq from being killed by American soldiers. He decided the way to do that was to kill the people doing the killing. Other than the number of victims, there ain't a nickel's worth of difference between them. They both moved from extremist ideology to extremist actions.

In other words, the Scott Roeder conviction demonstrates that we can successfully try terrorists in a civilian court.

2. Nicely summed up
What struck me about Roeder is that he still hasn't come to terms with the fact that most people really don't consider him any kind of a crusader hero, just a garden variety murderer who needs to rot in prison. He seems truly astonished that the judicial system and a jury of his peers didn't see it from his point of view.

I'm sure he'll milk the Christian martyr thing for all it's worth in prison.

I'm also sure that as the years go by, he'll discover that Christian martyrdom isn't as glamorous as he thought it would be.

4. I think I'll write a letter to Mr. Roeder
Dear Mr. Roeder:

It's a pretty day here. Sun shining, birds chirping, the trees and the shrubs budding and blooming. The air is fresh and clean, like it just came from the factory where they make new days. I'm going for a little stroll or a bike ride. I'll wave to the kids I see and maybe pop by a restaurant for some nice lunch.

Have yourself a nice day. In prison.

Love and kisses,
gratuitous

Followed up by a similar letter every few days.

5. I have a lot of praise for the judge - he took a very emotional and potentially
explosive trial and made it work based on LAW only. His opinions on Mr. Roeder's "mitigating circumstances" were right on and cogent. I have no doubt Roeder will appeal, and I have no doubt he will lose again.

If ever anyone belonged in prison for life, Roeder is the one.

6. Too bad Randall Terry wasn't also charged
with inciting violence. Didn't Roeder call Operation Rescue after he shot Dr. Tiller to report? Roeder, as despicable as he is, is a tool for Terry, et al.

7. I wonder which prison gang he'll seek out for protection?
I don't imagine there are too many "pro-life" murderers like himself there.
