‘Hard 50’ is the right time for Roeder’s crime
Anything less than the “Hard 50” for Scott Roeder would have been worse than a miscarriage of justice.

It would have been an invitation to other kooks to commit copycat acts of domestic terrorism.

Instead, we have the virtual assurance that the 52-year-old Kansas City area man will live out his miserable life in prison for murdering George Tiller.

That ought to be sobering to every other zealot who might contemplate assassinating abortion providers.

1. Well, the rapture is scheduled for May 21, 2011...
so Roeder's probably figuring that he'll only have to serve about 25 months.

2. Martyrdom denied!
Just one of many reasons why I remain opposed to capital punishment. Instead of flying away to meet Sky Daddy's welcoming arms at the hands of a vengeful secular government, this murderous bastard begins the long, slow descent into decrepitude and madness - not exactly a 'glorious' condition in which to spend the rest of his miserable-ass existence. Others who would seek to follow the murderer into martyrdom see rotting away in the federal pen as diminished glory, so perhaps they'll be dissuaded from following in his murderous footsteps.

3. I watched the final part of the sentencing. Roeder seemed to believe he would
get a light sentence - his lawyers were evidently telling him he should expect probation for the asault charges and maybe a few years for the murder - I think he was shocked and angry to get the 50 years plue 24 months.
He showed NO remorse or sorrow or shame at what he did, spent his last moments before the sentencing railing against Dr. Teller's church.

I hope he lives to a ripe old age in some shit hole prison, and hates every day of it.

7. The murderer believed that only his laws and his church
are acceptable. That is breathtaking arrogance. Fuck him - he won't kill again.

Rec this thread - excellent column.

10. I hope you saw some of it - the man was so arrogant and contemptuous
of everyone whose ideas differ from his, and he has absolutely NO feelings for others. Prison is certainly where he belongs.

4. Bet he hopes they don't put him in general population
seems like the guys don't like the type of killing he did, in a church yet.

5. Anybody know where he will stand in the prison hierarchy?...
Who will support him... who will go after him?

I know child molesters are in danger, and cold blooded murderers have status, but where will he stand?

6. They didn't even charge him with terrorism.
Should've. Didn't.

The hard-50 does seem right for terrorism.

8. That's a federal crime. He was charged by the state.
I am still hoping the feds will step in though.
