Update: Discovery Advertisements On Glenn Beck

Last week, advertisements for Discovery’s new series, LIFE, began running on Glenn Beck’s program. Consequently, participants in the StopBeck effort sprang to action. Given what I thought Discovery Communications stood for, I imagined that they would be willing to disassociate their brand from Glenn Beck’s vitriol, race-baiting and sexism. This turned out to be an incorrect assumption.

After almost two weeks of kind requests from participants in the StopBeck effort, Discovery still refuses to publicly disassociate their brand from Glenn Beck’s hate. However, I have received confirmation that they have no more LIFE promos scheduled to run on Glenn Beck’s program even though they continue to advertise on other Fox News shows.

Here’s the exchange that I had with Discovery (these are exact quotes):

Me: If you’ve pulled your advertisements, please advise so that I can remove you from the remaining sponsors list. Thank you kindly.

Discovery: The last time the LIFE promo ran was 3/19. No future airings were planned.

Me: Thank you. But, they are still running on other Fox News shows. So, does this mean Discovery will no longer advertise around Glenn Beck? What I’m getting at here: Can I stop targeting @Discovery as a current advertiser of Glenn Beck’s?

Discovery: There are no Life promos scheduled on Beck. Thanks!

Given that LIFE promos continue to run on other Fox News shows, I think there is reason to believe that our voices have been heard. But, unfortunately, Discovery’s unwillingness to disassociate their brand from Glenn Beck’s hate leaves them and our effort in a sticky situation.
