Child tasered by police; two Martinsville officers suspended

The Morgan County Sheriff's Department and Martinsville police are investigating whether police used unnecessary force when they tasered a 10-year old boy at a daycare.

An officer is also accused of slapping the child.

Police say the officers responded to a report of a juvenile who was out of control at Tender Teddies daycare in Martinsville. According to Assistant Police Chief Dan Riffel, the officers said the boy appeared out of control, kicking and striking out.

Riffel also said this isn't the first time they've responded to the daycare because the boy was out of control and trying to hurt others.

The two officers involved have been suspended with pay and placed on administrative leave until the investigation is finished.

The names of the officers and the boy have not been released.

A pregnant Leslie Donaldson says she was trying to help break up a fight between neighborhood kids. That's when the sheriff's deputy showed up. He tazed one of the boys fighting then said he had to taser Donaldson.

"She raised her arm to the deputy. The deputy felt threatened like she was going to hit him potentially," said Alachua County Sheriff's Lieutenant David Clark.

Clark is a certified taser instructor with the Sheriff's Office. He says when he tasered her stomach, he didn't realize she was 8 months pregnant.

As for the kid... if I was that day care center I would had expel the kid from the center if it had been going on for a while.

You don' TEASE a 10 year old kid, regardless if he kid are striking mad it is other ways to subdue the kid - non violent ways, so he could be calmed down... I know from my own experience, as a 10 year old, who had a temper without ends that it exist many ways to be calmed down, by grown ups.. I remember specially one time, when I was really mad for some reason, I was just put into the floor, by a grown up, and hold to the floor as long as I was. And even tho I fighted really hard I could not get out of the grip, and in the end I was so tired because of the fight, that I just gave up... And then I, and the grown up, was going to a room, and was talking for a long time, to se why I was in that mood.. (AND I was then in a special ed class because of my temper!!) This kid who was tazed, could have been treated some of the same way, you dosen'thave to electrocute a kid at age 10, with 50.000 volts to get him to calm down.. What you need, is to use the fucking brain... And to use he dame brain, to get the kid to understand that he had to calm down, and maybe sit down to talk

And I have what today is known as AD/DD, MUCH of the same problems as the AD/HD, without the hyper activity... And one of the handicaps, we do have, is that we can get a anger without ends.. I mean REALLY anger without ends... And when I was 10, i could explode for almost nothing.. I guess it was great fun to tease me at school;(

Not to defend this kid, but I would say in 99 percent of the cases, as kid docent blow without reason, if the grown ups, have seen the "danger" little before, and maybe tried to talk to the kid, to se why he was angry, he might not have blown up as he did... To me, the little I know about this incident, it looks like a typical AD/HD/DD case...

I for one hope at least the officers would be given a reprimand for what they did, and maybe even go to a counselor, to educate them selfs what a kid is, and what to do, when a kid is in anger.. YOu doesn't treat a 10 year old kid, as a grown up.. 50.000 VOLTS can KILL a 10 year old.. It can kill a 100 kg grown up if he have a condition that is not known...

I have adult attention deficit disorder. I did not realize it until I was about 50. My son also has it. His doctor believes it is genetic.

I was grateful for the diagnosis. It explained to me many of my problems.

I find it hard to believe that a 10 year old boy could not be controlled without tasering. Hopefully, this child will get the help he needs, and the officers involved will be educated as to how to better act in a situation like this.

Many have problems, diseffects who they trie to hide as best as they can.. It is little shamefull to have a disorder like you and me for some reason, even tho many who never would know what their problems really are.. Not sure what the numbers are in the US.. But here I live, it is estimated that maybe 5 percent of a population of 4.7 million can have problems that never would be proven... I would say it should be one of the "standard text" at age 7, so many of the problems you experiences as you age would be easy to stop, or at least to ease..

I dosen't know about my AD/DD deficit disorder before I was 25-26 year old, it it was by luck I got that diagnose... Many of my problems was coming into order with that diagnose I might say.. Even tho I was tested 6 hour or so, over two sessions, one of the experts - himself a member of the AD/HD "clan" was really sure that I might have AD/DD after 5 minutes.. Becouse when I told what I had experienced in my life, specially at school it was somewhat of a text book situation, for a typical AD/HD/DD situation.... But I have to say, I was not suprised about it, as I had been sure I had something like that, since I was listning to a radio program in 9 grade, and some kids who had the same problems was telling about their experience.. It was like looking into a mirror about my own problems in many ways... But I was a grown up before I managed to know what problems I had..

And yes, i was also grateful for the diagnosis, mostly becouse it explained most of my problems, specially in younger days when I had a temper that could explode for everything and nothing.. I have learned to control it, litt to good sometimes I guess... As I am little scared over what I can do when I blow... Have broke persons bones before, when I got mad (when I was in 3 grade I broke a 5 grades arm so mutch, that he dosen't was the rest of the year at school at all.. he really pissed my off, and I kind of jumped into him, and broke the arm... One of the few times my anger harmed anyone.. Mostly I just was standing there, red as a lumbster and boiling.. and I guess funny to look at) And not at least, to explain a lot of my "Learning disability", specially when it came to the consept of math... I sucks at math... And I hate Math... Even tho I was given a lot of extra time to learn the dam consept...

I am not sure what the kids need, but I am pretty sure if he had been tested he would wound up with a ad/dd or ad/hd diagnose, and then he might also can be given some help for his temper.. And the officers in questing. They should be re-educated, and given a fine, and a repimand and be told to use other means next time a 10year old kid goes on a temper... Yes a 10 year old can be scary when he/she really blows up, but compared to a grown up, a 10 year old kid are nothing... It is shamefull to use a teaser to subdue a 10 year old who are striking out, even that a 10 year old can do harm.. I know have been there myself... But when I was growing up, most pepole dosen't have the ability to a teaser.... It was still a long way from that stuff...
