What issue will cause you to jump on a thread?
As I browse through GD I will always jump on a few threads..

Anything to do with -

-Military

-Law Enforcement

I may not always post but I will always read it when I see it. What are your hot button issues that you always look into?

1. I don't think I have consistent hot buttons like that ...
It pretty much depends on the titles that catch my interest. I read more than I answer, but I tend to go for oddities as much as anything. Sometimes they turn out to be very interesting.

6. I go for the ones about the right wing talkers..
...from radio and tv..I'm always fantasizing about finding some way to trio them up..I like call-to-action threads too, like boycotts, call your congressman, write a letter to the editor, etc...I guess my favorites are the ones that call out the right wing hypocrisy.

11. I don't generally jump in on "hot button" issues
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 01:15 AM by tech9413
I do get excited when I see a thread that use what I see as flawed logic or limited viewpoint. I try to keep my posts civil and stick to facts that are verifiable, although might be subject to interpretation.
One post that got me tonight was regarding Ms Alonso's confrontation of Sean Penn. When you have some understanding of the political/economic issues at play, it is very easy to dismiss the critical views of Chavez. Those in power want to stay in power and Ms Alonso grew up in that atmosphere.
I don't hold Chavez to be a Saint, he's just a man and subject to poor judgment and error, as we all are. His greater goals would be to the benefit of the nation as a whole. It might be painful for those who have lived in luxury under previous governments, but sooner or later we all have to pay the bill.

Those posts I expressly avoid are those with a subject line that makes no sense and those that can't seem to express themselves in the written language. I don't like being a language nazi, but in most cases, if you can't proof you post to make it understandable, the supporting logic is probably just as poor.

Subjects that always get a read are economics, labor, foreign policy, military spending, science-environment.

Don't let my low post count dismiss my opinion. I was formerly tech3149 but changed after a move and computer failure.

12. Interesting, to me:
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 02:16 AM by Quantess
I read threads that look like interesting news, threads that have a high recommendation ratio compared to the comments, and threads that say 'TOON' or 'Onion', or best of all, 'Photos'. Photo threads are a good bet at being interesting to me.

In general, I prefer humorous and entertaining over argumentative content.

Newbies posting their first OP's are either a potential goldmine of popcorn and pizza, or, a chance to welcome a good DUer.

If I have a very high level of knowledge in a certain topic, I will be sure to comment and set the record straight.

If I'm curious about a certain topic, I ask questions.

What bores me:
Guns bore me to near tears. Abortion now bores me, too. To be clear, I'm absolutely pro-choice but ever since I realized that arguing over abortion accomplishes absolutely nothing, and never seems to sway anyone's beliefs, I am bored. Same-old-controversy bores me, in general.

Biblical discussion is perhaps the most boring of all. I have limited knowledge of the Bible, and I have even less interest in learning more. I respect people who are knowledgeable about the Bible, in a similar way I have respect for people with a degree in philosophy. Edit to add: which I think is commendable and scholarly.

Also, I never click on titles that say things like "Rachel Maddow was sure great on the tv just now!", or "Glenn Beck raped and murdered me when I was a teenager".
