AND we have an excuse from Sheehan
Edited on Mon Mar-29-10 06:37 PM by Betty Karlson
This link is so far the only one I could find:

http://www.trouw.nl/nieuws/wereld/article3028244.ece/VS-generaal_Sheehan_biedt_excuses_aan.html

The general who so much wanted to keep DADT in place he blamed the Screbreniça massacre (1995) on the presence of openly gay soldiers in the Dutch military, who claimed Dutch general Henk van den Breemen had told him so, who was derided by any and all Dutch politicians, who has a case pending against him in Dutch courts, remember that one? His name is Sheehan.

Well, he has finally come round to apologising. At least to one person.

No apology as yet to the Dutch gay military personnel, to the victims of Screbreniça, or to the Dutch government. No apology as yet to the gay and lesbian servicemembers who bear the burden of DADT as well as doing difficult jobs in Iraq and Afghanistan. (If you are against those wars, please agree that the individual servicemembers' right to love whom they love has nothing to do with it.)

But, Sheehan has written a letter of apology to General van den Breemen. Sheehan's excuse?

"My recollections of our discussion fifteen years ago is not that good."

I dare say Sheehan has bigger problems than a deficient recollection. But it's a start, I suppose...

(Edited for spelling error)

1. Yeah,
The Dutch General blamed the massacre on "Bosnian Serb" soldiers; Sheehan thought he said "Gay Dutch" soldiers.

Honest mistake.

2. UPDATE:
The case against Sheehan has been dropped by the plaintifs, "Pink Army", in view of his excuse to van den Breemen. The organisation of gay and lesbian servicemembers said: "he has taken back his words, and that was our goal."

It's a shame the case was not pursued.
