There Have Been Other Attempts At Starting A Third Party That Have Been Pooh-Poohed By MSM.......
why is it that this time - with the Tea Party - MSM seems to be pushing for them to succeed?

1. For one thing, they like "Drama" -- if there is drama, they get ratings, If they get ratings they
sell more ads.

But there is something else going on here too. I have no clue as to why they have promoted this fringe group as if it were mainstream.

10. There's something going on all right. Not one channel has addressed why they're all White.
It's just ignored, the Big Elephant in the room.

2. Rebranding Bush's debacle so they seem like outsiders. Republicans = Tea Party
This is a less-than-clever ruse gone out-of-control, with too many wackos showing up and making the Rs look insane. This idiotic deception will sink their ship even further.

11. Exactly, except for one thing - with RW Corporate Media domination, acting as 24/7
anti-democratic commercial (with brief exceptions, tokens like KO and Maddow), how exactly will this most recent of hundreds of successful Bushie PsyOps, sink their ship?

I believe you are engaging in wishful thinking here.

3. Can't they just revive the Dixiecrats?
Seems goals, etc are exactly the same.

4. i think 3 parties would be a bad idea, but 4 parties would be ok.
imo, a third party would probably be centrist and could win every election. 4 parties would allow for more diversity. alternatively, i would prefer no party but that would not last long as politicians would team up.

5. Until he cracked up Ross Perot was far more credible
than these idiots that cannot even spell and think they pay 42% federal income tax. Ross only received 18.9% of the vote.

6. IMO, one word: Fox
Fox pushes a false talking point legitimizing the Tea Party, then reports on it. Over and over. The rest of the MSM feels behind if they don't report on it as well.

7. it matters not, the dems and repooks have colluded to create plenty of electoral roadblocks
to prevent a real third party movement. just ask the Greens.

it's job security for the 'made' members of both parties to ensure a 2-party system in america.

9. Yes and the last

really somewhat 'successful' attempt ended in the 20's with Eugene Debs and the *gasp* Socialist party........ :)
Just prior to that Teddy Roosevelt tried with the *gasp* Progressive party.
It is not in the interests of the 2 existing parties to let anyone else play. As a result we are often forced into a 'this or that' kind of existence politically. No gray areas. The other end of the spectrum is like what, Italy or other places where they have about 30 different parties in government? Not a good situation to have to work for effective compromises.

12. Because they know for sure that 2012 is going to Obama. There is no denying that...
and in order for either the Repubes or the Tea Party to come out as credible for 2016 there will need to be a major split in 2012 for the throwaway election so they can come together in 2016.

It's all about serving the greater good for their party. Both the Repubes and the Teas can't exist together - one must succeed while the other falters and you can't do that in a mid-term election. They MSM LOVES the CONFLICT that the Tea Party creates and for them and for the Repubes/Tea Party they will run (and lose) in 2012 to get ready for 2016.
