Dem Memo: We’re Kicking Butt In Local Papers
http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/political-media/dem-memo-were-kicking-butt-in-local-papers/

One way of gauging who’s winning the public opinion war over the new health reform law over the recess is to keep an eye on local press converage — editorials, columns, articles that tell constituents what the new law means to them.

And the House Dem leadership, in a new memo being distributed among rank and file Dem members, is arguing that Dems are already winning on this front — an effort to stiffen Dem spines for the battle ahead.

The memo — authored by top Chris Van Hollen aide Doug Thornell — argues that the first spate of local coverage around the country shows that the new law is playing in Dems’ favor:

Despite House Republicans’ over the top rhetoric and off the wall predictions, “Armageddon” did not come following passage of historic health care reform. Local editorials from across the country hailed the enactment of health reform as the right thing to do and applauded Democratic members for showing courage.

The memo compiles several dozen opinion pieces and editorials from across the country to make the case — many of which hailed their local member of Congress for doing the “right thing” or having “the courage” to vote Yes. Message to Dems: Hang tough.
