RNC "Bondage Club" story going mainstream...
Edited on Mon Mar-29-10 11:49 AM by brooklynite
now on:

Washington Post

Kansas City Star

Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The Hill

I suspect it'll be on the network news by this evening

(note -- to be fair, the FEC report does not say that Steele was in attendance at the Club; the issue is his oversight of Party expenses)

2. The GOP is already spinning this shit with some bogus story about a lower
level staffer.

Riiiight.

I've seen plenty of lower level staffers pay for shit so the big boys don't get caught.

They'll have to try harder on that one.

8. Ah, so they're saying
Steele went to a topless Lesbian bondage sex club, but a lower-level staffer paid for it, so that makes it OK?

This is going to be a fun week...

11. I don't know about the "lesbian" part, lol, but it is indeed a BDSM club.
"Lesbian" might be applied to the situation IF the client (generally male) wanted to watch two females engaging in BDSM. No sex is going on at a BDSM club (unless they violate the law - some clubs or workers do).

14. The original article from the Daily Caller
mentions "topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex."

Here's a quote from a Yelp review of this place:
There are topless "dancers" acting out S&M scenes throughout the night on one of the side stages, there's a half-naked girl hanging from a net across the ceiling and at one point I walked to the bathroom and pretty much just stopped dead in my tracks to watch two girls simulating oral sex in a glass case.

Really understated elegance here.

"Really understated elegance" -- bwaa-haa-haaaa!! Yeah, that's a classy sounding joint for sure!!

15. I find it hard to believe that the RNC doesn't have cost controls on lower level staffers.
Our junior staff can't charge the company card for more than $500 at a time without authorization from superiors. This numbers goes up incrementally by position and budget authority. This is a pretty standard accounting practice.

Someone with budget authority signed that card.

22. They might be telling the truth
If they're not, then someone's likely to come forward as a witness before very long. I'm sure TMZ or someone similar would write a juicy check to anyone who could back up their claim.

4. +1 which is why I suspect that congress didn't go to bad for ACORN after
the hoax was revealed.

Sad. Sad. Sad. IT was more for the DNC's convenience than for the convenience of the people who depended on ACORN.

16. They should change their party slogan. "RNC: Join us for all the hot action"
Edited on Mon Mar-29-10 01:36 PM by izzybeans
They could brand their headquarters as if it were the San Francisco Tenderloin and redesign it based on their common fetishes. Bathroom stalls in one wing, BDSM clubs on the other, enema bar downstairs, meth. lab and furry costumes on the roof, etc.

18. RNC: $22 M, down to $10M...despite raising add'l $96M during Steel's time ... Wow!!
The committee had more than $22 million on hand when Steele arrived last year, but is down to under $10 million now despite raising $96 million during that time, records show. A previous dustup over Steele's spending habits prompted party leaders to approve new restrictions requiring more oversight and competitive bidding for contracts over $100,000. The Daily Caller Web site, which first noted the new FEC filings, also reported that Steele had initially suggested that the RNC should purchase a private jet for his travels after he first took over the job.

Steele's spending habits have prompted angry complaints from wealthy GOP donors and party officials, who fear the chairman is making poor financial decisions and undercutting the GOP's attempt to cast itself as the party of fiscal responsibility.

"Nothing surprises me," said one former RNC aide, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity. "It definitely speaks to the desire for first-class accommodations over there."

The Feb. 4 expenditure of $1,946.25 at Voyeur West Hollywood is listed as "meals" on the RNC disclosure form. Visitors to the chic nightspot have included Hollywood celebrities such as Lindsey Lohan and Leonardo DiCaprio; press reports indicate the club is open to the public three nights a week and otherwise hosts private parties.

19. (Submits $95,000 invoice to RNC)
Not for anything in particular, but I have a feeling they might just go ahead and pay it anyway. I'll send them 2 plates they can use for their next $50,000 a plate dinner.

23. I wonder how they intend to fight the midterm elections without going insolvent
For all the worries about corporate financing, what company is going to write a check to an organization with such poor financial controls? It'd be like begging for a shareholder lawsuit. Maybe they'll donate to individual candidates, but not to the national party.
