Interesting "TO EVERY JOB POSTER ON CRAIGS LIST"
Edited on Mon Mar-29-10 05:24 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
Perhaps your ad will net you a "bargain" employee.....but you must keep in mind, that someday the economy is going to get better....and you will lose your "bargain" employee. Yes, the economy sucks but it doesn't mean the unemployed are willing to work for "suckie wages". We want to be valued...for our experience, for our expertise, our tenure, our knowledge, our education!!! Having to take a job for a pittance may get you a valuable employee but deep down you can believe they're seething with resentment!!! Of course your new employee will smile smile smile at every change, every insult, every rude comment....and the ultimate insult; "you won't find a better paying job" will just make it worse. For example; to pay a full charge bookkeeper $15/hr is an insult. Ditto for a non-degreed financial position offering under $17/hr. Keep in mind; these individuals pay your bills, process your payroll and create your P&L statements (which they can READ as well as you can). Please think what YOU'D want to be paid should YOU be applying for the position! Yes jobs are slim to none - but advertise a fair wage and you will be inundated with qualified individuals with excellent resumes. And of those called to interview - i guarantee 100% will present themselves for the interview! I will be one of them.

I notice a lot of employers are using this great (sic) economy as a means of reducing wages. Americans are truly being "nickeled and dimed".

1. i got my job from craigslist
and am the best "bargain" employee they ever met. my guess is the ad's from a headhunter; my company saved all that money when they hired me.

2. My Fiancee Is A Sr. Accountant With Twenty Years Of Experience
I see a lot of low balling employers on cl trying to fill jobs. However the poster isn't criticizing cl but criticizing low ball employers.

Folks deserve a honest wage for an honest day's work.

3. i'm making the best money of my life
my employer saved the headhunter's fee only. and, i lowballed myself fwiw. my employer did not. in other jobs, yes, but then i needed a job. i basically consider CL a great resource for both employees and employers. there will always be places and industries that won't pay the same rates and in many cases i would imagine that they cannot afford to. of course everyone deserves an honest wage for an honest days' work.

5. Wages fall during deflation
Many of us have only experienced inflation before. During inflation the prices of goods and services (including wages) tend to rise. But this recession is marked by deflation. Deflation leads to falling prices for goods and services. Sad to see wages declining, but it is just one more symptom of our deflationary problems.

6. My favorite CL job listing isn't there anymore, but OMG
The employer in question billed herself as the CEO of a "financial services company". The employee in question would be her assistant. And the bookkeeper. And the office manager, who arranged all corporate travel, kept four other people's schedules, and several other responsibilities. AND the nanny to the "CEO's" preschool-aged child. In addition to all the above jobs, the assistant's job was to "make the CEO's life as stress-free as possible". I should also mention that the job ad mentioned in three different places that the applicant should be "thick-skinned" and "able to handle large amounts of stress". Oh, they had an espresso machine available, too.

All this for the princely salary of $10 an hour.

It's the closest I've ever come to responding to a jobs posted ad with "You will get what you richly deserve".
