2. Oh this brings back memories!

When our kids were little, we watched in wonder as a mother skunk brought six babies into our backyard. The little ones ran circles around our bewildered cat, turning somersaults and acting like kittens! Fortunately our cat was smart enough not to get itself sprayed (unlike our dog, who recently tangled with a skunk) and our two tots were inside.

3. Dogs don't have the smart gene when it comes to skunks.

5. My dog still will lunge for them.
The more he gets sprayed the more he wants revenge.

A friend of mine has pulled porcupine quills from his dogs at least three times.

8. We tried everything to get rid of the smell--what finally worked was
a special deskunking bath that PetCo's groomers used. It wasn't expensive - not much more than all the ingredients we'd bought at the store that the vet recommended but that didn't work.

9. We used to go with a few baths of tomato juice. Our dog was the sorriest
mutt around for a few days after.

Then she would go and get hit again and again. She was full of love, but none too bright.

10. When I was a kid, a friend had a pet skunk
that he'd acquired when it was about the size of those in the photo. I was amazed that his parents allowed him to keep a skunk in the house, but it came to an abrupt end when someone shut a door on the critter's tail. Five years later, you could still detect eau de skunke in damp weather.
