In response to your questions:
Tiger woods is widely regarded as the world's greatest golfer, and is a superstar. His participation or nonparticipation in any golf event makes a huge difference in the competition, attendance, participation, number of TV viewers and revenues of the event. Since he has withdrawn from events after the November 27 crash, the golfing business has seen a big impact. It likely will see a very big impact when he competes in The Masters Tournament, his first since November. The series of events involving him was covered by all kinds of news and sports media around the globe.
He lives here in Central Florida and runs a business here. He has a local impact.
Concerning Sarah Palin, she may no longer be governor, but she has a large following, and draws a big crowd wherever she goes. She has a very loyal fan base, and is in great demand for speeches and appearances. She is campaigning for her former running mate in his re-election campaign. She is likely a candidate for future public office. She is one of thousands of former public officials who are widely sought for speeches, appearances, and public service projects.
WESH is not the only news organization in Central Florida covering these two people. You will see very similar coverage by the other media in the area and across the USA. As long as these individuals continue to be the public figures they are, with such interest from the public, we and other media will continue to follow them.
Thank you for watching.
The WESH 2 News Team
It's all about the Benjamins.
What they fail to understand is that they are part of the problem. If it wasn't for them covering these non-news items, they wouldn't be news! The Twit is a cartoon and only has a following amongst a small % of Americans. Sure, they're rabid Americans but does that make her headline news worthy? They never covered John Kerry like this after his 2004 election bid.
