I need some help from DU here
As I announced on DU this week, I intend on challenging an incumbent for a seat on the Monmouth County Democratic Committee (a male and a female from each voting precinct are elected in the primary for the committee). I do not know the incumbent I'm challenging and I am not doing this to run against her, but because it's something I want to do for myself.

This week, I would like to eventually meet with her, the local Democratic Party chair (also someone I don't know), and the Mayor of my town (D) to let them know my intentions and try and getting them to work with me and not against me.

I would like to come to this prepared and so it looks like I know what I am doing and that I don't look like an ambitious kid. I'm working on a letter of intention describing what I have done for progressive causes since moving here in 2007 and listing the organizations that I am involved with. Since I am also a progressive blogger, I want to put a printout of a few blog entries in there too. What I need you guys to help me with (anyone who is willing) is to read through my blog and tell me what some of my better blog entries are. I write for my own blog and a statewide one.

If anyone is interested in helping me out, please let me know. I want to get this done this week. Thanks in advance DU

1. So if you don't know these people, I assume you haven't been involved in your local party?
Why not start going to meetings and events and get involved? I am active in my local party and we tend to be very supportive of candidates for ANY office who are part of our group and have been active with the local party.

2. the local party does not have meetings that I am aware of
at least if they do they're not very well publicized. I do attend the county party meetings, and often I"m the only person in my town there.

4. Totally wrong approach... stop worrying about the internet and stop worrying about getting endorsed
by electeds..

You need to get involved in the party and work from the inside.

Work on campaigns for Democratic candidates.

Get to know the Democratic voters in your precinct.

Your blog doesn't matter and existing electeds will either NOT endorse or will endorse the incumbent over you.

Why do you need to run against the incumbent? Why would you be better than him/her? Voters are making a choice here.

5. I agree
Forget about the blog, the voters won't care about it. The Mayor and Party Chair also will never endorse you over the incumbent unless you absolutely totally knock their socks off, and even then, you may only get them to agree not to go negative on you.

MEET the voters. That's how you win a challenger race, you knock on as many doors and meet as many voters as inhumanely possible. In other words, you take AT LEAST 2 hours EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. going around meeting people. Knock on their doors, go to every single civic and public event in your district.

Yes, you should meet with the Mayor and Pary Chair, but don't EVER expect to get their endorsement. Just provide them the curtesy of telling them you're running. Then start hitting doors. THAT is how you win elections. Blogs are nice, but the average voter doesn't follow them and doesn't care. Instead, use your blog to rally your supporters and tell them what's going on and when and where they can help you out.
